I posted a similat question a couple of months ago. Several sources said there is marked performance drop at anything above 52mhz.

Any Portable on 6 meters FM is not gonna perform as good as if you were on SSB with a Hi-Gain antenna! conditions change every 10 to 40 mins.. If you have 6 meter repeters. Try it out! I haven't had much luck with 6m portables on FM. (either simplex frequencies or repeaters!) But I can work 7-10 states on ssb....it may last for a 10min window, more or less time, conditions depending! Still wreaks the hell out of a TV set down the street!

I posed the same question to a motorola guru. He said it was a real ugly mod and wouldnt do it again. Supposedly, it involves changing alot of components that are hard to get to. rmann

The Mt1000 low band 99 ch. was ok up to 52
mhz.A bit of rx sens. lost. Raymond
