i have a suggestion for the Motorola design engineers, since you are all packing so much software related capability into the HT750/HT1250/HT1550 series, would you consider adding a transmit total accumulated TX timer somewhere in the menu, i would find it very interesting to know how much i transmit for sure, and also it would be a effective tool in determining how much a radio has been used if i were to be considering buying a particular used one at a hamfest.
just an idea, i see cell phones have had em' for years.

Thats a pretty relevant feature for the hobbiest, but for a commercial user it is completely useless....first of all, if it is on sire, there is no worry for airtime, plus if you run an SMR your claim to fame now is unlimited airtime, so that would be useless to a custemer that just got away from nextel and/or cell phones to keep track of because for those guys there shouldnt have to worry...the key here is to step out of your own shoes and look at who these radios are really sold to. I'd say 1% actually would be sold (new at least) to a hobbiest. the features have to be relevant. If not they will spend alot of time catering to the demographic that is not really making them any monry (kinda like what they are doing now.) They need to perfect the useful items before they get ahead of themselves and start going out on a limb for customers that are not really spending the heavy $$ and also make up the smallest piece of the pie graph for total new sales. Anybody agree? PS if they need a new CEO they can private message me.

you do have a point, but i have been going thru my menu of my HT1250LS, and found something that has very little use (in my opinion) to the regular user, that is the
software version menu. it doesnt seem to be a big deal to have it in there, after all, all the end user would really need to do is to check the label behind the battery, whenever M upgrades the firmware, they put a new sticker on the back noting such change.
it seems like it would take a small amount of time for one engineer to write some extra code to add a total life transmit timer into the menu, some would check it, some wont. i doubt it would take any more hardware to accomplish this. the end user may never need to know its there if they have a contract for unlimited airtime, but how many times have i been to a hamfest where there are several people selling a certain kind of motorola radio in the same physical condition, who knows how much more use one has had than the others, anyone who cares to know would be able to pop up the menu and check each ones total timer.seeing how M is trying to make radios more like cell phones these days it wouldnot supprise me to find such an option in the near future. it's just an idea
on another note... someone in another post mentioned they thought M could put a calculator in the XTS5K because all the memory it was potentially going to have
