I know it’s not Motorola but… Does any one know if the VX-900 will go down to the ham band. I am wondering about both the high split VHF radio and the mid split UHF. If it so how? Thanks.

I have both UHF and VHF VX900s. They both work fine on 145 and 440 mHz. I've never pushed them to, say, 138 and 430 to see what would happen but they work fine where they're supposed to in the ham bands.

Great radios, especially with the 2400 mAh batteries.

The VX-900 I am getting is 148-174, is your's the same split? Can I just enter the freq or do I have to do something? Thanks for the quick reply!

Before I bought mine I asked the dealer the same question, and he said to just enter the amateur frequencies and the radio would take them and work fine. He was right. I suppose that Vertex wants to discourage their sale as amateur equipment. If I have time tonight I'm going to see how low the radios will go.

Thanks, as long as they do 144/440 respectively I’m happy. Really I only need to go down to 146 and 444.

How about the vx600? or any mobiles?

I just checked the software for vx600/900, and the lowest the software would go is 134.000/400.00. Whether that will program into the radios, I don't know - All three radios 600V and 900V and 900U are not with me at the moment.

RapidCharger - in case you didn't know, it's the same software for both the 600 and 900. How convenient!

From what little I can glean, I agree with n7dal's post in the link above - I think you need to have the version that covers the ham bands to get there. Although I'll keep looking and trying things - I need a little diversion time over the t-day holiday weekend.

Thx for that info. I am mostly concerned with performance a few mhz out of band, propably not below 146. nor below 442.

I'm probably going to wait until after I move before I decide which one to get but they are on my wish list anyway.

The VX160U drops into the 440 to 449.9 range just fine. And does receive in the 480-486 for PS.
