The subject of VHF HT750/1250 radios having
poor TX and RX range has been well documented
here. Myself and others have used antennas
other than the standard one to remedy the
problem for quite a while now.

I have a supply of eight new antennas that
a source within Motorola sent me to try out.
These are wideband VHF antennas that are
touted to increase the range of the radio.
These antennas are prototypes, they do not
have the M name stamped on them, and they
are not available yet for order. I would like
to do a beta test on them and am inviting
a few Batlabs members to participate.

I want to issue two antennas to each person,
and evaluate them against the original
antenna for a two-week period. At the end of
the two weeks, testers will communicate
their impressions back to me. Nothing
scientific, just tell me if they work or not.

If you wish to participate, please meet
these criteria:

You must have two or more VHF HT radios to
test with. EMS, fire, PD, anyone who uses
them frequently are who I'm looking for. I
want to test radio-to-radio range, not
through repeater.

As you've realized by now, I'm looking for
four people. I will issue two antennas to
each person, free of charge. At the end of
the test period, you may keep the antennas.
The only think I ask is you pay outbound
shipping and give as much feedback as you
possibly can. If you do not wish to
keep them, send them back to me.

The first four seriously interested people
to respond to this message on the Board
will be those chosen. I will then PM you to
iron out shipping details.

Any takers?

I'm interested -

Monroe County in NY uses a VHF Simulcast system, completly simplex based, only the dispatcher is simulcasted. Everything is simplex beyond that, no repeaters!

I use a MT2000 if that qualifies for the test. I also have an HT1000 VHF too I can put one on to play with.

I would also love to participate. I have an HT1000 and a Saber VHF that they can work on... let me know if I can help out! I use the radios daily for both TX, and RX. Thanks!

The antennas that fit the waris series radios are not compatible with Jedi and Astro series portables. The waris connector is a straight threaded adapter, NOT SMA. I'm assuming Tony wants to test these antennas on waris radios.

Right. Waris line (HT750, HT1250) ONLY.
As of now I have one victim

As stated above, the antennas will not
work on any Jedi or Saber radio. And for
test purposes on the Waris radios only.

Tony,

I'm in rural Maine. Both Amateur and Vol FD. Our VFD needs to cover significant ground. I have an HT-1250 and a GP-300. The Dept has 10 HT-1250's.

I will be more than willing to assist in any way.

I would love to participate if it's not too late. Our Sheriff's dept. uses HT1250's fleet wide. Ever since the new units arrived all I have heard from them is static. Their old HT440's did much better. I even went as far as to trade equipment for different antennas for them to try to remedy the problem. I can tell you that a regular HT1000 vhf antenna didn't seem to help at all.

Anyway, I would like to give it a try and tell you the results.

I maintain a fleet of about 75 HT750 VHF 151-158 Mhz units used in extremely "difficult" areas in a paper mill in Maine. Although some are used with repeaters, most are not. I'm interested.
