I'm curious to know what it takes to succesfully setup a system watch setup to watch a particular system. What are the pros/cons to that over TRUNKER? Anyone have any success with it and could pass along some info that woudl be wonderful.
Thanks for your help... This board is a great resource.. You guys are great!

It ain't worth getting caught with it. You can do some real damage to a radio system with System Watch.
It doesn't tell you anything more than trunker or Treport. In fact, I like Treport better than Trunker except for 2 things. 1) It doesn't work with type-1 systems 2) It has an active display showing activity as they occur in a scrolling log. Trunker displays each channel and what TG and ID is active on each channel. It would be nice if there were a toggle to switch between an active logging role and a active informational display.
In fact the person who wrote treport is an active user on this board. (BTW, the above is constructive criticism).
Go buy a $30 800 MHz scanner (no trunktracker needed) and buy the $8 in parts from Jap Shack and build yourself a PD203 (mod) interface. Works real nice.

Haha, no worries! Treport is somewhat limited due to my programming skills and time. Things are going to drastically change with its development soon though. Moving to Windows and APCO-25 Trunking for example.
Anyway, back to System Watch... The problem with System Watch II is that the normal versions require a dongle which authorizes SWII to track a system. A bare bones version of SWII is entirely passive but I've played with a LAB version that allows you to construct your own I/OSWs to send to the system. With the regular SWII you can buy upgrades to allow you to interact with the system by doing radio queries, Fast Radio Finder for finding clones, Inhibiting, etc. Also SWII needs a serious and expensive connection. Earlier versions allowed the use of a RIB for its connection to a radio but that was later discontinued in support of the RIM II. RIMs are real expensive and are only for trunked terminal software. So besides needing a RIB or RIM you need a radio that supports an RF Modem. Then you're set. And not alot of cheap radios support RF Modem operation.
SWII has since been discontinued. I think SIMS has been or is close to it also. I think the newest trunked terminal software is Site Lens for SmartNet and single site systems, and for SmartZone Systems you have Zone Watch.
It's my goal, well somewhat of one, to make software that exceeds SWII or any reporting software with an RF connection to a system running in a passive mode. There's quite a bit of work going on in the background most don't know about. Hopefully some things will surface. Regardless, I intend to put something out that will report the significance of every bit sent out over the control channel (Something Motorola will probably never do) so stay tuned.
