I have a VHF Spectra hi-power with an A4 (rotary) head. I went to a Motorola shop and inquired about upgrading to an A9 head. They went into the radio and couldn't figure out what it would take. (They didn't seem too sure.) Is is possible or economically feasible to do? I'm not very technically inclined so I'm just wondering.
Thanks

Yes, it is possible. From my experience it takes a remote mount kit consisting of the front adapter plate for the radio (P/N 15-80062P03), a remote cable (P/N HKN4356B) and of course an A9 head and misc mounting hardware. The biggest challenge is modifying the radio Command Board and MLM to function as a A9. This can be done by changing a memory location using the Lab software (as mentioned on BatLabs) but is done at your own risk. Also, you would need a new codeplug compatible with your radio and the A9 features.
If you are not technically inclined, the best bet is probably to contact the Motorola Radio Support Center at 800-227-6772 and see what they can tell you about accomplishing this for you. I am not sure they will deal with you directly or whether you will have to go through a dealer.

Oops, I just noticed you said you had a "high power". I didn't think there was such as thing as a high power with an A4 head. Is this already remote mounted or is it a dash mount? If it is already remote you probably don't need the remote cable or adapter plate. If it is a mid-power then the comments I posted still apply.

Just blow a good A9 CP into it, you should be good to go. SG

Yes it is a remote mount already. What would the codeplug involve? Will any 9000 type head work with it?
