NTN1153D - it's DES-XL for an Astro Saber. I've been using it for about a year.

Is it OTAR? Multikey? DES-XL/DES? Any other combination? The one that entitles the bearer to free donuts for life?

I don't even know where to look for info...

It's exactly what it says it is on the white label stuck to the module itself. No more, and no less. The only thing I'm not totally sure of is if OTAR capability is a radio option, but I think that it's a radio option and the modules are all OTAR capable by themselves.

If it doesn't say DES/DES-XL, and says DES-XL only, then it's DES-XL only.

Actually, it doesn't say anything beyond the part number...and it appears to be the original label.

I THINK it's DES-XL only, but I'm not sure about the multikey part.

Multikey is a codeplug option. If you flashcode indicates that you have multikey enabled, then the module will do multikey.

I didn't know that! Thanks for the info - I'll have to decipher my flashcode...

Actually, my local constabulary uses the modules
in their XTS3k's and Astro Spectras that are listed as DES-XL/DES-OFB and they are going plain DES. (sorry, I forget the XTS part #, but the Spectras use the NTN-1564's. I suppose
they figure since it's all digital, why mess up the audio for no range extension. (like
normal analog-to-digital Securenet DES-XL gives you over DES)

Actually OFB stands for Output Feed-Back and is the mode specified by APCO P25.

ATTENTION: CHEFA

Also CFB (Cipher Feed-back.

Don't forget that these algorithms are not propriety Motorola so a web search should bring up all the info you need.

These algorithms (and 3DES for that matter) are now considered outdated so you may want to have a look at AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) - Rijndael (pronounced Rein-Dahl or similar)for info on some of the newer algo's....

Have fun!
