my fd has a new cdm1550 that decodes emergency. the only way to reset it after a emergency has been received is to turn the radio on and off. looking in the cps can i program pin#9(external emergency switch input) low and put a momentary swithch between pin 9 & 7(ground). will that reset the cdm?

That should do it for you.

If you want to be really slick, here is a sneaky trick from someone more clever than myself (Nand or Wavetar, if my memory serves):

1) Program one of your front panel buttons for "Aux. Control #1" (or 2)
2) set up one of the accessory connector pins (4, 12, or 14) for "Aux. Control #1" (or 2) output.
3) Jumper the Aux Control out pin to pin 9.

Instant front panel reset button!!

i know the 1550 wil decode emergency, but can it also be set up to acknowledge them, so the x-mitting radio resets?

ok i did what you said humhead 2 things.
1. when the radio powers up now i get"emerg kit fault" but it does reset the emergency.
2. now if there is no emergency to decode and the button is pressed the radio will transmit its own emergency.
are there any other settings i am missing?

and radar yes it does acknowledge the emergency i was just doing it.

make sure you set the portable or mobile open mic duration(in the signalling configuration screen) to zero.

I think that my mistake was in agreeing with the choice of pin 9, set for Emergency Switch Input, as the emergency reset. It looks like it should be Pin 6 set for Emergency Input (as opposed to Emergency Switch Input). Wavetar also provided information on timing settings in the original thread.

is there a way to not have the radio encode emergency(when there is none) if you hit the button?

Try setting "Emergency Type" to "Disabled" under the Signaling Configuration/Emergency tab. You should still be able to decode, as long as "Emergency Decode" is selected under the appropriate MDC system, you just won't send.

Here's the rest of it - can this same emergency decode functionality be accomplished by an MCS2000 model III or a Spectra?

With the XTS3000s, emergency decode only appears to work for trunking systems. I suspect that the spectra at least, and probably the MCS will be the same.

I can confirm the MCS2000 will only decode emergencies in trunked mode as well. Not sure about the Spectra.
