I have an MTX8000 model#H01UCC6DB3AN. When trying to program the MDC in the conventional personality section, it is programmed to NONE. I try and hit the up and down key to change it from NONE, but nothing happens. I am using MTSX Lab software. Could that be the problem?

If you don't have an MDC system set up, I don't think it will change from "NONE"

From the main menu....
F4 Change/View
F6 Conventional Systems, Personalities, MDC...
F4 MDC Systems, Options, Call List
F3 MDC Systems

From there you should be able to add a MDC system...
Hope that helps

This is with RSS MTSX 6.05....

JJM,

From the main menu, I hit F4, then F6 for the conventional, then the choices are only F1 HELP, F2 CONVENTIONAL RADIO WIDE CONFIG. and F3 CONVENTIONAL PERSONALITIES. I'm using MTXS LAB software??

Thanks,
Tony

I posted instructions for doing this a while back. I'll see if I can find the post, but it's here somewhere on the board.

Alex,

Ok, thank you...I would really appreciate it. I would like MDC on my portable. We have it on our Spectra's in the cruisers, but alot of us carry MTX810's and they don't have MDC. My email address is [email protected] =)

Thanks,
Tony

OK, On mine I have those that you have described and an F4 (MDC Systems, Call List, Options)
Is that radio capable of MDC?? I haven't used a MTX8000.

jjm,

It has the orange emergency button on the radio, I think it is capable of MDC.

OK!

I couldn't find the origional thread, it's sometime around Oct->Nov, but I found the instructions.... These again are not mine, so I'm not taking an ounce of credit. BE CAREFUL with what options you change. I paid $25 each for my MTX8000's at dayton, so I don't mind messing with them, but you might not want to ruin your investment. (I really wish I baught the crate of 25 of them....)

Here are the instructions:

> After reading your codeplug, save it, then press ESC, F4, F2, F9, F3, F2 to
> get to the MDC options. Turn on what you want and then F10 your way back to
> the main menu and press F3 then F8 to write to your radio. Pay no attention
> to the model number or create codeplug options as they were meant to create
> codeplugs from scratch (I think) but I know it works the way that I wrote
> above.

This will also let you enable, QCII, and GE Star if I remeber correctly.

This does require LAB. And LAB will *NOT* read a 6.xx codeplug.

I don't think the lab software will let you enable a feature that isn't intended for that radio model. I had the same problem - I have an MTX9000 that I wanted to send MDC. I called the Motorola rep & said I would pay for an upgrade. He said it can't be done to an MTX8000/9000 since they are sold as a 'Privacy Plus' feature set product which does not have MDC and does not have flash upgrade capability.

I actually ended up buying an MTS2000. These do support MDC (they don't all come with it but they can be upgraded if they don't).

Since that time I have watched posts about that issue and it looks like what you can do to solve the problem without buying another radio is to get hold of an MTS2000 codeplug from a radio that has MDC and then clone it into the radio you have(with the LAB RSS).

Your radio will then think it is an MTS2000 (but still not flash upgrade capable because of the different controller) - and it will do MDC!

This is also true.

However, the solution I posted above, which requires lab will work. (you'd need lab to do dump the codeplug in...)

(XMO, if you read this post, check your P/M in a few... Thanks...)

alex,

I read my codeplug, saved it, hit the ESC button and got back to the main menu, hit the F4 key and got the CHANGE/VIEW MENU, but I don't have an F2 option...

Send me your codeplug - [email protected], and I'll see if I can be of help.

Here we go again (I got bombarded the last time I did this). Send me email and I'll send you a codeplug with MDC, conventional/trunk emergency, priority scan, 250 modes, whatever else you can think of (came out of a MTS2000 C9). The catch is that not all features work even when they're enabled; the only couple that I can't get to work are Singletone, GE Star and possibly QC2 (I don't have a QC2 system to test it with but it might work).

The MTX8000's are capable of MDC ID/Emerg, they just have to be enabled in the codeplug. Also you can read a R06.xx codeplug from a radio with Lab, you just can't read a R06.xx codeplug in lab from disk.

I'll throw this question out too: Anyone got any ideas on how to read/write to the Flash EEPROM on the MTX8000/MTS2000 controllers? I bothered to look up the spec sheet on the AT28C256E chip on the MTX8000 controllers and discovered that they can be read/written from/to. So I'm thinking, read a MTS2000 chip w/V5.xx or V6.xx firmware and write it to the MTX flash chip. I'm pretty certain that the same chip was used on some MTS2000 controllers before Mot started using Intel FlashROM's (think I've seen them somewhere). I also thought I found a program from Atmel that would do this at one time but I lack the physical hardware (programmer) and the time to pursue it. Anybody got some info on this?
