Batboard

At my fire department we have 2 Streamlight Lite Box chargers in the first compartment in this truck on the drivers side:
(sorry its a passenger side photo, but I put it there so you could see the truck and at least get an idea )

Its a 1997 Pierce Responder.

The problem is after the years the Lite Box chargers have started to loosen up. Apparently the other guys tell me that originally there was nuts on the opposite side of the compartment wall that held the screws down and they have just come off. So my idea was just to put a bigger screw. Well that idea was blown all to pieces because I didnt realize how close the tank was to the opposite side of the compartment wall. I cant find small screws that will hold these. Any ideas?

So what would you do?

ours are mounted to the doors... not the back of the compartment

I am pretty sure that you can find a larger short screw...i have some 1/2" #10 screws.

There's an anchor called a riv-nut (Might be spelling it wrong) that basically is a pop rivet that is internally threaded. BTW, The biggest machine screw you can fit into the LiteBox charging rack is a #10

They works just fine & they are available in aluminum, steel, and 316 stainless steel. Try you local autobody shop - they likely have the tool and can order a box of of the anchors (if they don't have a handful loose to give you)

The Riv-Nut or the Nut-Sert (same thing...different producer) is the way to go. You need the installation tool to install them.

Another cheap way is to use a toggle bolt, although you have a large hole to instert it.

When our fire department bought a new Brush Truck we did all of the work at one of our captain's body shop.

I dont remember exactly what they called it, but they used a big pair of rivot inserters to put the mirrors on.

I remember them drilling a small hole and inserting the rivot and then the installation tool caused the rivot to tighten up in the drilled hole.

Is this similiar to what your talking about? Sorry for my not-so-good description. I wasnt paying too much attention to the body shop guys when I was laying under this thing with 5,000 wires in my hand trying to decifer which military wires were ok to cut..

Look at the Brush Truck: if theres a screw slot, allen socket, or torx socket holding the mirror onto the door, that's the gadget you want to use for the Litebox charging rack

Sweet, this is going to be a whole lot easier than I expected.

I'm gonna go get ahold of the body shop guy today and see if he can donate 8 or 9 of those rivots.
