What kind of tubes? If there hide-a-ways then it doesn't work that well as the paint gets on the trigger wire. The colored ones used tinted glass, not plant.

There is a solution to your problem. There's a product called lamp dip (a theatre thing) that will allow you to dip glass lamps (bulbs) and it's made to withstand the heat. Your local theatre supply company probably carry's it, or knows of someone who does. I beleive LimeLite in Mass. carry's it, been quite a while since I've bought any...

I would think that would screw with the trigger wire wrapped around the glass.

I think that you need to buy the correct lamps or leave it alone.
The OEM colored ones are dyed. If you cover the glass, you are not only going to possibly effect the trigger member, but also possibly cause the lamp to overheat.

I COULD install a bed onto the rear of my Grand Cherokee if I cut enough metal away, but I think I'd buy a pickup truck first!
