black with red stripe in the wiring harness underneath the steering column. Just did one last week on a 92. I am pretty sure the 91 & 92 are the same.

sweet. thanks. I now have the wires leading to the control box to the siren. All i need now is a new speaker, the TS100 i had on the previous cherokee doesnt fit in the new one.

what is the horn output? (hot when horn is pressed)

It's a Chrysler product! GOOD LUCK! My 95 jeep has maybe 25% correct color coding according to all the books I have. I think the Chrysler guys show up hung over and throw whatever they find in there.

i gave up though. i'm just going to wire it to a momentary switch like i should have from the start.

The red/black wire should go to ground when you push the horn ring. Easiest way to do it is use a voltmeter to check for 12+. If there is no 12+, use a jumper and jumper the red/black wire to ground. The horn should sound now.

Then that is your wire. But like mancow said, my book maybe off. But it definitely shows the red/black to be ground.

i was poking around more, and when i put the test light between it and ground, it lit up, and the horn sounded.

so i checked it with the voltmeter, and that was the ground.

which is worthless to me, if i have siren that requires a positive trigger.

so the airhorn is getting a momentary switch in the new overhead switchbox.

If you are looking to use the horn ring as a trigger, use a relay.

Depending on what kind of siren you have, you may need the ground or can change a jumper for ground.

What kind of siren do you have?

sho-me undercover with wail/yelp and air horn.
Using it for a dedicated air horn only though.

(shrug) dont have a use for a siren. I dont respond.

I don't have the wiring diagram for that one, but if it requires a 12+ to activate set it up like this.

Using a SPDT Relay:
85 - Jumper from horn ring (don't break the horn ring wire, just make a jumper from horn ring to 85)

86 - 12 volt constant (or you could wire to a switch to activate only when the emergency lights are on, or you could label one switch air horn on/off and run this wire to it.

87 - 12 volts constant

30 - out to siren

This way when you push the horn button, it will activate the relay, connecting 87 & 30 giving you 12volts to the siren.

Like I said, you could also wire the 86 12volt feed to an airhorn on/off switch, so when it is on, it sends 12volts to 86. When it is off, you have your regular factory horn.
