Centracom error??

Anyone here ever see this error?

"Database could not be opened: Network Communication Failure. Elite will shut down."

I was installing a new remote Centracom console today & this is the error I'm getting within a few seconds of trying to open Elite Dispatch. I have no idea what it could be, although the error description sounds like a problem on the LAN side of things. Logging onto the network is no problem. I can ping all the other consoles, bridges & server. I'm able to see the "CDM.mdb" file in Network Neighborhood & configured the Elite program to point to the file....just like the other 3 which I've installed over the last year or so. I confirmed the CDM program wasn't opened on the server. I loaded NT4.0, SP6 liKe the other consoles & verified the proper version of Centracom Elite (9.02.05).

I'll be checking it out with a local FTR in the morning. Just hoping to have a few suggestions for us in the morning, since he had none over the phone today.

It seems to me that sometimes the error messages you get from Elite are not entirely descriptive of the real problem.

I do know that I have run operator positions with the network disconnected from the op computer, BUT, that was after it had run successfully at least once. You situation seems to be a new configuration that has not run successfully yet.

Once the elite dispatch program has run it keeps a 'last config' file on the local hard drive.

Silly question - did you create a config file for this op with ELite Admin and is the path to that file set up correctly in the Elite config at that op computer?

Yes you are correct, you can run the OP without the network connection, as long as you were able to connect at least once so the OP can create it's own 'cdm.ldb' file.

Yes, I pointed the OP to the computer which contains the various Elite configurations, same folder as the other OPs are looking at. I also veriifed I can see it in Network Neighborhood & can ping the computer.

My gut feeling is the system provider named the OP something different in CDM than what they gave me to name the computer. Normally that would give a "Network ID" type of error...but who knows. You're right that the error message sometimes doesn't actually describe the problem.

We shall see later today. I'll update what happens.

What a pain in the @ss. After much testing & swapping of many items, it turns out something was wrong with the new OP position computer. I had to format & reload it from scratch & then everything was working as it should. Note to self...always load the damned computer yourself everytime!
