Well, the eBay ad says:
> Motorola GS300. Model: JMUE1003A. Based on the GP300,
> GP-300 footprint.
I assume he means GM300, not GP300. At any rate, it might be worth trying to read the radio with GM300 RSS.

Have you tried gp300 lab or hex edited software that needs no serial number?

You can tell it's an off-shore product----check the mic on the right side of the chassis. In any event, why bother wasting time, money and effort trying to run down RSS for a 13 year old single channel radio?! You can get a nice multi channel UHF radio on eBay for maybe $50 or so that has way more features, and you won't have a problem finding RSS for it. If nothing else, go to the Puyallup Hamfest tomorrow. They will have TONs of Motorola Maxtracs for $50 each. A guy had maybe 50 UHF Maxtracs at last year's Puyallup Hamfair at this price, they were in great shape, and he had problems getting $50. I would guess he would easily take $25.

Why waste your time? Beause no one has one of these. An excellent addition to a collection
I guess people have moto radios for different reasons.
I have a ton of radios. I use a handful for fire/ems work, the rest are all for my mini moto museum.
A radio like that has a place waiting for it on one of my shelfs

GS300 can be programmed with GP300 RSS

GS300 can be programmed with GP300 RSS! If you have a GP300 schematic, you will find that the design is pretty much the same as GP300.
(except it uses Mitsubishi TX module.)
Hope this helps.

I seem to remeber this subject elsewhere and it was discovered that the radio was the GP300 foot print.
I also recall that the GP300 program would program it but not just any version of GP300 program.
Seems to me there was a paticular version that would and others would not program it.
Not sure that i read the version that would and wouldnt = Sorry.
You just might be able to read and program this radio with GP300 rss =If your getting error #21 Radio not supported =Then consider hex editing the GP300 programs MDF files and add the model number of your radio.
With luck you might get the program to acknolegde this radios model number and then let you in.
IM NOT TELLING YOU TO DO THIS OPTION BUT IF YOUR GUTSY LIKE MYSELF AND RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS .
Try dumping a known GP300 code plug already programmed to what you need .
When the program just ids the radios model number of the good GP300 try switching very quickly the radios before the program dumps into the radio after model number id passes the program.
Now im not going to kid you a bit = You Gotta Be Darn Fast At the Swicth Over And it Requires A Realy Setup To Be Sure Your Fast Enough At the Switching.
But if its not a compatible code plug for sure and you did manage to switch fast enough you will more than likely corupt the code plud .
SO BE WARNED OF THE CONSEQEUNCES.
DONT QOATE ME ON THIS = BUT THATS WHAT I REMEMBER READING ON IT AWHILE BACK.

The guy's in Maryland, which is nowhere near the state of Washington.
Better he should try the hamfest at GAITHERSBURG MD this coming weekend, which is one of the larger ones, as well as being held on both Saturday AND Sunday.
We'll all be on 446.225/PL 156.7/simplex and 449.975/PL107.2/simplex.
Use Tool Kit

If GP300 RSS doesn't work, one can always use Tool Kit to throw a compatible codeplug into GS300 to work as a GP300. Although it requires some degrees of modification, the unit is capable of handling 16 channels, if you add channel selector switch (BCD code).
Locate the four input lines goes into CPU(marked 29V45), you are in the business. The 47k ohms pull-up resistors attached to each line might help you locate the inputs.
GS300 was used for "kani" radio in Japan. "kani" stands for "simple" or "easy" in Japanese and the service is pretty much like GMRS in the U.S. with the max output power of 5 Watts. There is another Motorola radio called GS500 in Japan, which is also built based on GP300 and come with 6 channel. If I remembered correctly, the power module of GS300/GS500 can handle up to 10 watts.
Does GS300 available in anywhere else?
Just a little background...
Most of the radio service in Japan (including hamradio) requires an operator license and a station permit, which are similar to a driver's license and a car registration, but the "kani" radio is only required to have a station permit. All the "kani" radio requires to transmit a government assigned PTT-ID (or ATIS we called) for each transmission.
Also, there is a license-free radio service similar to FRS in Japan called "tokusho" radio, which operates on 421-422/440-441MHz range. You will surprised to find out that the max output power is 10mW!! and NOT allowed to attach any external antennas! The radios are available in a simplex model and the telephone style "full-duplex" radio.
Motorola does not make any "tokusho" radio, though.
