..."And I do have three Motorola cb's, a system 500 SSB base, a 4009 dual watch mobile, and a 4020 mobile... "

LOL!! hey I thought I was the only one on earth who ever heard of those! I've got two of them, one's a little 'UV' damaged (yellowy) but the other is looking pretty good. The only problem I've got with them both is flaky intermittent TX power output. I've changed a couple of transistors (six or seven yrs ago) and no change. I do have the manual, maybe I should just have another boo at it. Any suggestions?

Hi:

I may be one of few left that has Serviced
the " Mocat" Series, and I do have the
factory Service manuals.

The main problem with the Mocat Series
( and 500's 550's ) were unstable Osc
circuits and PC Boards.

Its been so long ago, even I have forgotton
about some of the fixes, but that is one area
and I still have notes on them if you can
describe the problem in more detail.

The SSB radios were a after thought, and well
the PC baords were not all that hot compared
to the Mocat PC's. Good Electrical Design, just had some physical
construction problems

So you might try an used a Oven at 120 degress for 5-10 Min, and have your frezzer
nearby to see if you can make the intermittent more permanet.

Once it developes the problem, you should
be able to isolate the problem area.

If you give up, I am one of few that still
can service them, and I have all the Factory
parts too !!

( Only thing I ran out of was the Mic Elements ) They were designed to Break !!

Other than that, they still are super
radios, and Cal Trans here in San Diego
still uses CB to communicate with concret
trucks delivering Gravel and the like.

As for the Mic element problem... my brother and a friend of his (a true motorola guru) wired up some commercial mic's to the mocat plug. Guess what... It works GREAT!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I also have two Mocats and one System 500. I inherited them not too long ago.

I'd like to find a System 500 base if you know of any out there.
