Sheesh, that's been covered many times, and it's always a loaded question. The bottom line you will hear from most people is that the Spectra is the King of Mobile Radios, and we should all bow down to it. Just a little humour there, but it is probably the best mobile Motorola ever put out. The combination of features, durability, reliability & specifications can't be beat. The key is finding one in good shape, preferrably with all the necessary accessories included. Hard to go wrong with a Spectra. All the better if you go with a newer Astro Spectra.

The CDM series is also a fine radio, IMHO. The feature set can't be beat, and the reliability has so far proven good. Durability & specifications suffer in comparison to a Spectra, but that holds true for any series of radios. Just remember, the CDM series was not meant as a replacement for the Spectra! It takes the place of a Maxtrac/GM300/M1225 just fine. If you purchase used, try to ensure it gets the latest flash upgrade. If you buy new, you shouldn't have any worries. Your pocketbook may determine your final purchase, but you'll probably be happy either way.

I have a Spectra A-7, a Syntor X-9000, and a CDM1550 for mobiles. I think the CDM1550 is a great radio at a good price. I have not found it to be lacking in any feature when compared to the Spectra. Also the programming for the CDM radio is much easier to work with than the older Spectra programming software. I would vote for the CDM1550 with the heavy duty Mic!

Good Luck

I have set-up and installed many CDM-1550's and so far have had good luck with them.
Many of them have been installed into Oilfield trucks, which is a rough environment for any radio.
Programming the CDM is complicated but it will do almost anything you want if you set it up properly.
Of course, the Spectra is an incredible radio and I would recommend as well.

I work for a MSS and I have several customer with both radios. We push the CDM 1550ls+ for our LTR system. I have hardley had any come back for repairs. I have found the CDM to be feature rich and dependable. The price is right and it comes with a two year warranty. I think its a great radio

Hi:

ALSO, lets us know how the RECIEVE Audio
is !

I know the Audio in some of the earlier
radios were lacking in that department

Other than that, it looks like it will
be very popular
