Take a look at this puppy on EBay (would post a link but don't know how) item#1335338440 a Red HT220 slimline with alert button on top, according to FCC database all allocations this frequency are
to power companies ? Also-where the mic.
legend is on radio's top there's something else with a red lens in that place but doesn't light up (some sort of sensor) possibly HT-220 849-1, anybody know what it is ?

I have one of those and the info I came up with was that they were made for Prisons, they have a mecury switch that sets off the emergency tone should the gaurd be knocked over, you can also just push the button on top.

Check with the guys at the HT220 web page, I gave them any info I came up with.

Sounds right except for the frequency
being used is presently licensed exclusively for power companies.

You need to remember those radios were produced in the early 70's, a lot of frequency assignments have changed since then, that could be the case here.

Why is it that when something "odd" from
motorola show up on ebay, several show up from different sellers at about the same time?

I've seen a number of suitcase repeaters (of both the "portable repeater" variety, and the MX drop-in variety) recently..

Interesting version and on and odd splinter freq. 154.4637 on radio label, guess it's
154.46375 Guess the freq. could have been re-allocated since the 1985 manuf. date of radio as Frank points out which is currenly allocated only to power companies in the US.
Ebay has it's ups and downs but you occasionally see some interesting finds.
(Bought NIB MT-500's there a few mos. back and there were NIB MT-1000's a few mos. back as well).

yup, ive seen the portables too.....
maybee its because some division of the government changes radio systems, and some of the old ones are sold as junk on pallets at around the same time, but at different locations.
that was a keen observation you made, and i noticed it too
