I am attempting to change freqs in MT1000 and first of all there is no power up beep but it will read the radio after about two Serial Bus communication errors, but no matter how many times I try to program data to radio I get Serial Bus access error 003!!!. I assume this is a controller issues any ideas???

How new is the radio and what version of rss are you using?

Not sure of the age of the portable version of rss is R03.01.02 1 June 1994

I'm not saying that this is the case with your radio but try the most current version of rss sometimes that helps. I can try to get the most current version info to you tommorrow.

HI:

I have mentioned this many times, but
again you must have a stable computer
platform. A good 386-486-25 is Highly
Recommended, a good Factory Motorola Rib
Box along with a kown good program cable
is required.

The use of a Home made Rib, Cheap Rib, or cheap Clone can / does cause problems some
of the times.

Make sure all the contacts are nice and
clean, and that you have a good battery
for the Rib and radio.

With the PROPER software, you should try and
read the radio several times....If it does not read the radio properly, you could have a
problem from the computer to the radio.

DO NOT try and use a DOS based program from
within ANY windows application ( Except for
those radios designed for windows ! )

On the MT1000 radios, we use a AST 286 10mhz computer in the shop because the RSS software will not work on higher speed computers.
The RSS WILL NOT run if Windows 9x or later is on the computer.
Try a DOS 6.xx computer, slower the better as Monty sugests.
Who neeeds windows! for the good ol radios.

Ray, our version RSS will not, maybe you have a different version. R03.00.0 10-89 1989!!!
they did not even know about fast computers in those days. My reff shows the R03.01.02 in 94 as the latest ver.

Mine is 1989 ver 3.0 also and I have not been able to run it any faster than 10mhz.
Slow is better.

Try unpluging the 2 flat white connector ribbon type cables that plug into the vco, then try reading the radio, then do your changes, plug back in thoes 2 cables then program the radio. I have had success in doing that bringing back radios to life..hope this helps ccg

Burner, I use the same version RSS on a Win98 P-120 Compaq laptop, with no problems at all. Drop me an e-mail if you're still having problems. I've got several tricks & tips that might help you out if it's a processor speed issue. Windows has nothing to do with it unless you're trying to run it in a Dos window, or are using the "restart in MS-DOS mode" under the shut down menu.

Burner, which version are you refering to?
I wish I had a version that would run on our laptop portable, pent166/Win95b. I have to lug the old Toshiba 3200 (286 12mhz) out to my buddies house every time he wants to change his MT1000 scan list!!!!!!

Ok, thanks for the info, I will try it all, as for the computer speed I can program all my other MT1000s,HT600s etc.. so I really don't think thats the issue. Thanks again

I use my 150 Pentium with Sandy's RIB on MT1000s without problem. The biggest MT1000 programming problem seems to be that the contacts on the top of the radio get corroded and don't make a solid contact with the cable. This is a good way to make a "brick" ! Clean them before programming. After you clean them, clean them again.

Hey Will, you probably already know this but, If you enable "op sel" in the RSS scan options he can change his list himself. Push and hold the lower side buton and switching into scan mode, it will make a tone and go into program scan. select a channel and pushh PTT to enter it, repeat for each channel desired then switch out of scan and back into scan.

PCSAR, then I would not be able to go over and change his scan list and get a Pizza for dinner! I would be interested in the version that will run on a faster machine. Some of us are strapped using our slower clunkers. Also refering to April's post on the same.

BTW, Iam a K9 SAR
