PTX1200/ GP1200 UHF to MT2000 conventional

I have added a PTX1200/ GP1200 UHF to my collection and I was told that I could change this to a MT2000 UHF conventional by dumping a MT2000 codeplug in to the radio using MTSX Lab software and then re-tunning, is it that easy or is there more to converting the radio. I would love to here your comments before making a paper weight !!!!!!

Yes, it works that way.
But look at the serial number for the date of manufacture. 1994 and older are OK, on newer radios you will encountered the "toolproofing problem" which ends up with an dead radio.
