I have a secure capable VHF Saber III that has an occasional squall in the RX. (Very annoying. It blocks the audio.) I recased the radio with a new housing as soon as I got it, so I don't know if it did it before. It seems to be the housing causing the squall because I tried the housing on another radio with the same result. I'm sure it's something very simple....

All help appreciated.

The radio maybe a little Microphonic and when you put it in the other case it causes it to "howl". They will do this on a full quieting signal and become worse as the volume is turned up.

GP300, P110, P100, P1225, GM300, M series, radios do this too. Microfonic VCO.
Check to see if the sheilds are making good contact all the way around.

Later Sabers had more/better padding installed in them around the speaker to reduce this microphonic howl. You can probably find something useful around the house that will do the same job. Something soft, rubber, and non-conductive.

Also check to make sure all the module screws are snug (not tight!) and all the modules are completely inserted. Shield screws, too.

Hi:

When cases get replaced on Sabers,
"sometimes" that can be a indication
the radio may have been subjected to
some abuse.

There are many small SMC Caps that can
become cracked, Shields get loose, screws
loose, and the list continues.

With a dead carrier being recieved, it
should not squeel, or howl.....Make sure
evrything is secure and then try again
