2003 Ford ZX2 battery - radio wiring

Since spring is finally upon us, I figured it's time to wire my radio to the battery so I don't blow anymore fuses. :) I have a 2003 Ford ZX2 that I'm trying to run wires directly to the battery to power my dual band ham rig. (Kenwood V7A) I spent over an hour trying to find some little hole or crevice to cram the wires through today, but just couldn't locate anything. Does anyone have any specific details in wiring this particular model car? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Be careful on drilling on the firewall of this vehicle, there are alot of things bolted to the firewall. If you look at the console to the passenger side, near the floorboard there is a grommet and you can either use it or drill to the immediate right of it.

If you pull the carpet back it is near where the carpet meets the heater core box.

That is about the best thing I could suggest.

Are you talking below the dash or way back by the seat? I definitely don't want to drill if I can help it, rather just use an existing hole that is there. Thanks for your help!

I guess the best way to describe it would be sitting in the passenger's seat put your left hand against the center console. Run your hand toward the underside of the dash where the console goes under the dash.

When your hand meets the end of the carpet under the dash at the heater core box, there is a grommet underneath the heat and sound liner.

Hope that helps, it's about the best way I can describe it.

Well I'll have to check this out and see if I can find it. :) So once I find this, what's the best way to get from there up to the battery? Should I use a long piece of stiff wire/coat hanger to tie the wires onto? Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
