Need Help, How can I tell if an Astro Spectra has Securenet?

I am considering getting a used Astro radio. It is supposed to have Securenet, but this
is not know for sure, nor is the encryption type if it indeed does have it.

How can I tell if the radio has Securenet? Is there a module inside the radio to check out?
If so, where inside the radio would it be?

Based on the model chart, the Primary System Type is "W" ("Programmable")

Here is the info on the radio:

Model: T99DX+148W_ASTRO
ID: T04QKH9PW9AN

This was a previous government radio.

You do realize it is the 403-433 split? It might not do the ham band.

There are several ways to do this.

First would be pressing the HOME button 5 times on power up...if there is a module in the radio, and programmed as a secure radio, the display will show what type of encyption is in there and what revision it is.

The 2nd way would be to physically open up the radio and look. Pretty easy.

One thing to be aware of is that if there is a module in the radio, but the radio hasn't been told its in there, it WILL NOT show up under the test screen or RSS...so you really should open it up.

Pj,

Thanks for the info. I have opened up the radio, but have not seen any obvious sign of
a Securenet module. Which part of the radio would it be in, and what does it look like?
I am familiar with the L shaped carriers for analog Spectras, but don't know where
they go inside a radio, or even if these types are used with the Spectras.

I am aware of the frequency range of this radio and may convert it to a higher split.
Any idea what it is worth with the current government split?

what is it worth?

in parts, about $150-$200 as the only board worth a crap in there is the vocon and maybe the secure module (if any).

unless you have a UHF trunk you plan on listening in on, only buy it if it's cheap, then ebay it whole... the rats will bid it sky high if you start bidding at $1
