OK, I have a MCS2000 model 1. I can put a Model 3 head on it and force in a Model 3 codeplug. When I do everything seems to work but I get no audio out. I have verified the head is good on another radio and this radio still works if I put the original model 1 head back on. Any ideas?

Do you mean you get no audio out of the external speaker? Because there is no internal speaker in the Model 3 head...

Yes, I am using the external speaker plugged into the bottom accessory jack (25 pin). The same speaker/cable setup work with the model 1 head but not with the model 3.

On second thought, looking at the accy connector it looks like the model 1 cable has the speaker connected between pins 1 and 2. The pinout on Batboards looks like it should be on pins 1 and 3.

I guess I just thought since it was operating as an external speaker for the model 1 it would be the same for the model 3.

Pins 1 & 2 are jumpered to enable the internal speaker in the Model 1. If you have an external speaker wired to pins 1 & 2, you are simply running the internal speaker through a 4 or 8 ohm load! Wire it to pins 1 & 3 and you should be fine.

Thanks. That is what I did and it works fine. My mistake was assuming that since it was already configured for an external speaker that it was configured "correctly" when in fact it was setup for both internal an external at the same time. Both in series.

Thanks again
