Does anyone know the issue with a MT2000 that will randomly beep. The beeps are not evenly spaced out?? It doesn't happen all the time.

I have seen this happen on the older units with the 3 battery contacts and also if your speaker mic connector is not covered ( IE. if you short contacts

Clean the battery contacts and the contacts on the radio for the battery with a SOFT pensil eraser like a Pink Pearl eraser.
Some times the contacts jiggle and the radio does a power up beep, and you will see the led go green during the power up selfcheck, and goes out when it beeps. Just like you turned it on.

I think that is the issue! It used to happen on another radio I had and when I got new batteries the problem went away. I never put the two together. Thanks for the help!!

I found the problem. You were right about the speaker contacts shorting out. The speaker contacts cover is not attached so when you put your finger over the contacts you get the random beeping.

That is true, a little moisture on your fingers and touching the options (speaker/mic) jack can do all sorts of things.
It seems best to always turn off the radio before attaching or removing ANY accessory, including the programming/test cable.
The little cover is worth it weight in gold when the radio gets "deprogrammed" by a static discharge on the accessory/options jack.

Cover part # 3205514W01 SEAL, accessory connector $3.65
