I am having trouble reading the codeplug of my mcx1000. Both the com port and rib box are fine, but when I go to read the codeplug it says "Serial Bus Failure. Bus Timeout." Any idea? I checked the pinout on the cable which is made out of twisted pair CAT 5 and thats fine too. Any other ideas? Could it be from inside the radio???? Thanks. -Peter

Is it the TOOOO Fast Computer syndrom?
MCX radios are the older radios and hence the RSS was written for the computers of the day.
Try the RSS on a much slower computer, nothing faster than a 486-25mhz and make sure to run the RSS with DOS6.xx only. Windows 9x and newer Bill Gates stuf does strange things to com ports that most RSS does not know how to handle, alas an "Comm Error".

I'm running Dos 6.22 on a 286, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Get an ohm meter out and verify your home made cable does not have any short circuits in it anywhere (except for the DB-25 pin 4 to 11 short that is supposed to be there). Then verify the correct continuity between the pins.

When checking, make sure you have the cat5 RJ-45 connector in the correct orientation or the wires will be backwards.

Make sure all the DB-25 pins are pushed fully into the connector body, clean and free of any corrosion. Check the cat5 cable connector for any problems.

Check the radio RJ-45 connector for any pins that may be bent down and not making contact with your cat5 cable connector.

If you are sure the cable is absolutely correct then check your RIB for problems. Is the battery fresh or are you using a wall cube?

Do not forget to check the cable between the computer and RIB for problems also.

Check your MCX1000 RSS and make sure you have selected the same serial port you are actually using to connect to the RIB.

If possible run your computer, computer to rib cable, rib and programming cable on a different radio to test it all out.

I had a similar problem problem while programming a sysem saber.
-make sure all cables are secure and making good contact.

-Another thing even if the computer says bus error or bus time out error just keep trying several times. It kept happening to me but i perssited (20x)and it finally programmed the codeplug.
