I thought you were purpurting yourself to be a professional. ...Why do you continue to ask questions you should know or be able to figure out?

Maybe so, but I don't need to ask where to mount stuff in every different vehicle that is presented to me. It's one thing to try to figure something out, and when you are banging your head off the wall, to ask for help. But if you never tried in the first place.......

....wherever it fits. Look for a space that your speaker physically fits into and mount it there. If the space is too small for the speaker, don't mount it there. This ISN'T rocket science. Hint: inside of the trunk/hatch area is bad. Once moutned, post 27 pictures of the "installation."

Coming from someone else who does installs for a living, it is always helpful to ask questions, such as if someone else has done the same car and if they have had luck with a job, and have any tips or techniques to share. I am NEVER afraid to ask questions. The more you ask, the more you learn!

I guess by Jim's account I've posted too many pictures of the unique vehicles I've done lately.

oh well.....

I don't think the SVT is a useless thread...that is a slick install.

I find a question about mounting a speaker in car interesting, since that question can be anwsered by actually looking under the hood/car and seeing where potential spots are.

The useless remark comes from the fact the standard matt vs. xxx bickering had begun...

Jay - thanks. Apco - I love seeing all the pictures - and you always put something to the effect of PICS in the subject so people can choose to view or not. I havent physically seen the car yet, or had a chance to get under it so was wondering if anyone else had had a chance to do so, and was looking for suggestions. Oh well....

Unique??? No offense, but not quite. That really was far from unique.

As for the original topic...

It just cracks me up that some try to convince everyone that they are a super-duper, master, been there, done that installer but when confronted with a SIMPLE task (such as figuring out where to mount a speaker), they can't do it. They have to ask. I'm quite sure that they have all of their local vollies and PDs bamboozled into thinking that they are some master electronics engineer, but once again...those whom are our here that really knows what's going on sees this clearly.

Get out a jack and a creeper. Go under the car with your two eyes and also with the speaker in your hands. Find somewhere that it fits. It really IS that simple. If you have to ask how to do a simple high-school vo-tech style task, maybe you shouldn't be touching someones $30,000 WRX, let alone vehicles that cost 10 times that.
If you can't find somewhere to mount it, get out the Sawzall and modify some cosmetic plastic and fabricate some brackets. I'm sure you have a plasma cutter, welder, saws, belt sanders and such in your shop, so this shouldn't take more than an hour or so to install.

The butt-splice bandit strikes again!

Jim,

Matt's queries aside people are still going to ask basic install questions here from time to time. We all should be accomodating of them to a point.

Humans do learn well from other humans.

So all the custom stainless steel work we've done out here wasn't unique?

What was it then?

While I don't doubt you do very high grade work, how come we never see any of it???????????

I like seeing pictures of peoples work in different vehicals. I think seeing the way people are putting equipment into different dashes and arrangements. Sometimes I've found things that I wouldn't have thought of by looking at pictures of other people's installs.

Just my 2 cents..

Matt

Yes Jim, I do in fact have all of the equipment you mentioned, and more than likely will be using some of them on this car. The point of this post, if you would review the original - was to see if anyone had done one, and had any tips or tricks. THis is the first time doing a WRX (Im sure youve done many), and as mentioned I have NOT SEEN THE CAR YET. I havent had a chance to get a jack and a creeper out and remove the front end to look for a suitable spot. Thanks.
