Have a M3 that does not alert worked fine until like two days ago. Anything I can do without having to send it back? Checked the programming and everything is still ok there. Thanks............

The pager recieves fine just dont alert when pager tones are hit.

Has happened to us many times. Do you keep on your belt next to a cell phone? It seems that people who keep it next to a Nextel have this problem. Motorola won't acknowledge that is the problem. Send it in, and when it returns, it will say board replaced with no explaination. I have learned to just get used to it.

No, Actually we have an tone encoder and I am trying to set it off as we speak and it will not go off. The guy who owns the pager states that it worked and then just stopped alerting.

going on what i know of what your telling me the only thing I can suggest is to read it and dump it back in the pager and check the levels of the tones being tx...... is every other pager be set off.....or is it just yours....have you droped it it could be that the antenna inside has been broken...all kinds of things could be it ....have you tried to put it on another slection (like vibe to see if it sets off) or something of that sort....

Well I just tried putting it on selection "c" which is the vibe and that didn't work either. Like I said the pager recieves fine so I dont think that it is the antenna.

This has been covered here a number of times. The pager needs board-level repair, either find a good repair shop or send it to Motorola Elgin depot. The programming is most likely fine.

Just reprogrammed the codeplug and the pager still doesn't work. Guess I have to send it back to get fixed. Now can I send it to Motorola or do I have to give it back to the dealer that we bought it from?

I have had the very same problem. Take the pager in your hand and squeeze the pager real hard with your fingers on the back of the belt clip and the front speaker which will cause the speaker magnet to push the cpu pins to the main board and make contact. Set off your tones (while still holding it hard) and see if it opens up. If it does you need to take the pager apart and re-solder the cpu pins. Works 9 out of 10 times for me. Good luck!!

Instead of messing with ours, we have been sending them to depot. 65 & 85 bucks later 8 out of 10 times we get a minitor IV.

I have only had 1 come back as a minitor 3. They replaced the board. 2 months later same thing, came back as a Minitor IV.

Tell my wife that! The hardest thing about fixing the problem is getting the case apart. It has a single screw in the back and then it snaps together using plastic tabs (2 on each side) making it difficult to take apart without breaking the case. If you have never opened a radio up to component level then I suggest you send it to get fixed. If you have, it is very easy to fix. When you get the pager in half, the cpu is in plain sight and usually has a round sponge type material stuck on it. I assume this was a way /\/\ came up with to put added pressure on the chip as the older models did not have this until a problem was realized. Using a significant amount of flux, just touch up the pins with a small amount of solder. Be careful to not expose the cpu or the board to a lot of heat to prevent trace damage. Before putting it back together test it. You can (and I have) send it to the Depot and you might get a M-4 out of the deal. My experience is about a 50/50 shot. They are very fast and turnaround is usualy 5 days. Good Luck, Glad I was of some help.
