Hello everyone,
I Have a MTS2000 with flashcode 000001-000000-9, Firmware R05.44. The radio will encode MDC, however, when it receives MDC, the radio doesn't display the unit ID. In the RSS I've enabled MDC encode, decode & caller ID is enabled. I think I've setup everything correctly, does the radio need to be upgraded for this (firmware, or flashed)?

If I remember correctly, you put the what you want "Displayed" on the LCD and the info of the accual ID of the radio that is
decoded. The radio decodes the MDC, and if it matches an entry it displays that entry for the MDC code.
Ie; MDC001E decoded displays "Sargent"

If the radio is a true MTS2000 and is flashed with MDC, then the radio is capable of doing MDC1200 universal decode (no call list entry's required). If your radio will not provide the universal MDC ID, then your firmware may be too old. Granted, you can alias MDC ID's in the call menu to get names.

I didn't think that became an option until you were at a version of R06.?? or better.

Go into your display options (F4,F3,F6 from main menu), and you should see "F9-more options". Go in there and the only option you'll see is "Caller ID". Enable that & it should then display the MDC ID's.

Just noticed that you've already done that...must be a firmware thing?

Firmware it is then. I have 6.18 and my MTS will do universal decode. I know 6.21 will do it as well.

I have some older MTS radios that will not decode the MDC. I was told by a Motorola tech that is was a firmware issue. I had the same problem with some MCS mobiles and it was definitely a firmware issue.. Time for the firmware upgrade if you really want to decode the MDC info..

How is the best way to get a firmware upgrade?? And what is the cost to have it done on a MTS2000 portable.

If the radio is legit, then you need to send it in to the depot. They WILL do it for less than flat rate repair.

Thank you to everyone that posted a response...I had quite a bit of time this weekend to tinker with the radio, and it encodes MDC no problem, however it still will not decode and display ID. I am going to call Moto this afternoon to inquire how much a firmware upgrade will cost. I'll keep you posted on my findings.

Hello All,
I'm sorry it took so long to get back to the forum with info on firmware upgrading MTS2000's. This info is straight from the Rockford Depot - Firmware upgrade on three radios is $134 each. A little steep, dontcha think? Anyhow, as stated before I was going to post my findings.

Just checked the firmware on my MTS, Ver 6.11 and it has no problem doing caller ID. But just as a side note, if your scanning it becomes annoying sense you look down to see which channel has the traffic and all you see is the unit ID. So if you do enable it, make sure you make the "secondary display" time very short. Otherwise you'll get real frustrated with it real fast.

Might just be worth the 134 dollars if you really need the MDC decode. Keep in mind, once that radio hits the depot, you'll need current RSS and toolproofing becomes an issue if it isn't already.

Hi Chris, right now my biggest concern is RSS -- I mean, I really don't want to spend $250 to renew our subscription. The last update I received was 6.4 and I'm fine with that. As for MDC it would be great to have, however, our system consists mainly of ht600's which don't do MDC, only supervisiors have MTS's. I am the lucky individual with "caller id"
Thanks to everyone who posted!
