Since these units are internally identical (discounting the later changes made to prevent channel upgrades), I have to ask: Why the two different product lines? Who were they marketed to, and was there a significant price differential? (And what possessed them to give the P110 such an awkward case shape? It's a real pain to hold.)

Tom: You overlooked the no scan/no priority of the P110 vs. the GP300, but I don't know why they have existed side-by-side except for pricing and market segment reasons.

Some of the P110s did not have MDC-1200 signalling capability, as I just learned last week.

The GP300 was targeted to the same market as the HT750 now is. The P110 was aimed at the "light duty, occasional" user as the SP50 is.

Both were great radios and are nearly indestructable and will last for years. If you have either one, I'd recommend installing new weather seals all over the housing, as they will take on water after a few years.

Kinda like the HT600/P200 series although
the marketing of these were in different product lines (HT600 Motorola full line)
(P200 Radius) and the P110/GP300 were both Radius products. For some reason the film industry adapted to the GP300 in a big way.

Interesting comments. I'm currently begining to move my P110's (I have 5) into GP300 housings with new seals on the knobs. I'll have to replace the large seals that encircle the internals as well.

As far as scan and other features go, I'm assuming the only thing preventing these features from working in a P110 is the codeplug, ie: if I load an appropriate GP300 codeplug into a P110 it effectively becomes a GP300.

You are absolutely correct. I have sucessufully moved a 16 Channel GP300 codeplug into I believe it was a P110 6 channel. It functions completely like a GP300, scan and all. Of course I had a little help doing this. You can also convert it by hex editing the codeplug.

Hello-
I've often wondered the same thing about the SP21/Spirit line. They are both identical in size, programming, and body shape (With the exception of the 21 being black and the Spirit grey). Whats the difference?
Any thoughts?

Does your modified GP300 have all the signalling inside it too? (LIke QCII and MDC1200) If so, I would like to know how you did this. I have two UHF P110s that I really would like to make into GP300s.
