Is the UTM4 the kickass siren/light controller that it looks like it is? I'm considering gettting one and seeking any opinions that ya'll may have about it.

oh hellz yes! I had one until I upgraded to a Unitrol Omega siren (partly because it was a remote mount). First of course, you got your distinct unitrol tones, but second, wiring this thing up is a breeze (check the terminals on the back, instead of wiring harness and stuff). I also like the fact that this box could handle a lot of juice - IIRC 150 amps or something like that. The siren does not have a rotary control, but once you are used to it, it works great - the handsfree function has several modes on it so you can use it whichever way you like it...

A few items I wasn't so hot on: The "clicker" telling you anything is on (gets kind of annoying at times). The hornring function that needs to be hooked up in order to access a lot of the siren override (yelp among others) functions and not being able to use airhorn over hornring (the siren function I use 65% of the time). I mean you can always put the horn ring on one of the accessory switches, but...

The slide switch is among the best. I have used the code3 and whelen slideswitches (and broke both of them) and the unitrol ones have outlasted me so far...

The UTM4 is awesome. BTW, you can disable the "clicker" a.k.a. the internal relay that simply opens and closes to make the audible noise, by physically removing the relay. Takes about 5 minutes, and gets rid of that annoying click all together.

90% of what I install are TM-4's ... They are pretty damn near bullet proof..

I bought one for my Jeep.. I just have nowhere to mount it..

No airhorn horn ring transfer....??

The Sys9000 siren does it. Jeez, Unitrol should revise that.

They did - with the unitrol omega and the 8000 series controller. There are two seperate inputs, one for hornring/manual and one seperately for airhorn.

I had mine hooked up to 2 seperate footpedals (kinda like in fire apparatus - yeah!). Now noise was merely a kick away!

I describe this siren unit as the following:

"Phat as a first grade pencil"

Enough said, I'm sure Jedi-Saber would agree.......
