MTX-8000 Caller ID option

I changed my setup on a MTX8000 this weekend and enabled the caller ID option. I noticed with this option enabled, I cannot see the radio ID of the person talking on the talkgroup. I set the caller ID option on the MTX-8000 to "ID Only" but it won't show me the ID of the person talking on a talkgroup. Does anybody know a way to get a MTX-8000 to do this?

I know that the MTS2000 will show the feature, but it will only work with firmware version six point something or higher. I'm assuming the MTX8000 is the same story, if it's supported at all.

Where do I find the firmware version? I see a codeplug version. I assume the only way to get a firmware upgrade is to send it to a motorola depot? Will cloning a mts2000 codeplug that has newer firmware into a mtx8000 work? Also, if you have a mtx8000 that's been cloned by a mts2000 will it be subject to toolproofing like the mts2000's are?

The caller id feature as far as i know is only for private calls or call alert, when you recieve a private call it briefly flashes the callers id then says call recieved

My MTX-8000 has always showed the ID on private pages and calls with the caller ID option disabled. I never saw a difference with it enabled on the MTX-8000. When it's enabled on a MTX-8250, it shows the ID of the person that transmits on a normal talkgroup conversation. I don't know if it's a bug or a feature but I like it.

This has been discussed recently. Yes, if you can get a 6.x controller for the MTX8000 then you can enable and use the ID feature.

The only problem is that the highest version MTX8000 controller I've seen is 1.93 and that was last year new from Motorola. You could get one for a MTS2000 and put it in your MTX, but I wouldn't ever sell it that way...no one would pay over $300 for it.

One reason that the MTX is cheaper than the MTS. yes you can enable it but it won't work. Same thing goes for GE star signalling, singletone, RAC tone and MDC call. MDC ID works though.

An interesting venture for all to ponder...the MTX8000 controllers have rewritable CMOS chip made by Atmel that contains the OS software on it. It would be neat if someone would come up with a way to interface to it on a MTS, read it and write that image to a MTX...I have the docs on the chip from Atmel's site somewhere. The chip number to search for is AT28C256E. Let me know if someone's interested in trying this, I don't have that kind of electronic experience.

BUBBASNEST,
I would be interested in that data on the chips. I have a friend who would love to figure out a way to do that!
email me when you get a chance.
