Greets to all,
I have a few pager questions real quick. Just got a a refurb ls350 pager that I want to play around with. (didn't cost me much, thank god for ebay). I was considering setting up an amatuer paging system. now before I go building a pocsag transmitter station I wanted to see if I could make the pager work otherwise. I know i need an IRda dongle and mot98 for it. I got a copy of mot 98 but no dongle. Anyone have schematics for one or at least some photos of one cracked open or something. Maybe a general description of how it works electrically? does there have to be any special encoding or is it striaght RS-232 into an IR transciever? If there is any signal conditioning or encoding, is it complex? Maybe I would just do better to buy a dongle if it is?? any insight would help, thanks, and keep up the good work on the website and boards.

ps: since motorola quit making pagers, anyone know of good sources and alternative brands for surplus pagers (should i get this system off the ground).

5862002D10 or NYN9831 is what you need for programming. It is supposed to be the IR adapter. The cost should be about $50.00 and still appears to be available.

Thanks for the help guys, but I was aiming towards trying to make one myself. I don't want to have to spend fifty dollars upfront (i'd rather spend $75 over the course of time, one part at a time). =0)) I was hoping a simple line driver and ir transciever would be about all it was.
