Can anyone provide information on this AS R look alike??

Obviously a special order for the NYPD. I think it has the XTS5000 brains.

The SSE was a special build for the NYPD. It uses XTS5K internals and programs using the 5k software. At this time sales are restricted to the NYPD and agencies in counties that are permitted to buy off the NYC contract. This radio will only be made in T-band UHF so it will ony be desirable in slected markets.
Take a look at the quick user guide. It is printed so it can fit into a NYPD ticket/ patrol book.

Interesting - all the most used features is a simple to operate group with the case style of what appears to be a just slightly taller than an analog saber 1 non secure!
I wonder if Chicago PD will go for something similar since they were/are huge saber users.

All of Chicago PD are using XTS3000's. The only Saber IE's that I've seen them use are for special events. Alot of those old Saber Ie's have hit the used market already.

It could be worse... At least it uses mainstream CPS.

last time i was in downtown the zone officers I saw still had Saber IE's and there was some limited use of xts3000's in test zone.
Maybe its changed since.

I agree! As a lifelong Saber nut I'd love to have one for the collection!

I'd kill to have that radio.
I don't like front-display radios, but that's the only option you've got with the XTS series.
Now if only this did Type II trunking and VHF...

I guess it only makes sense for NYPD to use something like this. All the chargers, mics, holsters and batteries are most likely the same and you cant change too much otherwise it might confuse the cops...
Besides Im partial to sabers anyway.. If it only was VHF....

Very impressive. I wonder why Mot is only going the NYPD route... the rest of public safety would LOVE these things.
As someone pointed out... just like the Saber Si. And Damn, Saber Si's are outstanding radios (they allowed 15 tg scan lists). I owned one for a while, and forgetting about the crappy buggy RSS, those were nice radios.

duh

i'll tell you why.
ASSEMBLY COSTS.
Same reason the astro saber went out the door (besides being huge)
why build something (unless someone is willing to pay dearly for it....) that requires lots more man-hours to assemble?
consider this vs. the robot assebled xts series... cheeeep to make.

Just this past month in Boston with all this DNC bull crap going on, I had a chance to interact with some of the fed's, there was a few guys from the ATF that had these radios. They looked pretty neat too bad the guys that had them did not know too much about them other than when they got them.

FYI - NYPD seems to activly be using these radios...
I saw a few officers today with them. They look nice... IF it wasn't for the RNC and people being quite tight assed, I would prob. ask to see one.

If your a big account with Motorola you could probably ask. My understanding is that they are not for general sale. (Aka you just bought a 30 site Smartzone P25 system and you want a toy...)

alex, I mean unofficial purchase for private usage/collecting.
Anybody own?

I highly doubt that anyone has one that was acquired through normal channels. I know 1-2 people on the forum who have them issued, but short of that I don't know anyone who personally owns a SSE.
They were in such limited production (to my understanding) that it would be VERY hard to get your hands on one outside of the NYPD. If you were to get one I would probably question it's origin.

It'd be interesting to get your hands on the service manual for one and see what parts for it are orderable.
I wouldn't mind having a non-working display model, just for grins.

Item Number. NNTN4467A
HOUSING KIT MII BLK SSE5000
$171.15
Item Number. 6881094C12
MAN,SRV,SSE5000 SRV MAN
$32.50
Those are the prices I'd pay via my Moto account. Maybe others can get them for less.
I wonder...if this is essentially an XTS in a different case, if you could get a frame with control top and a housing,
could you build any other XTS5000 into it? Or is it sufficiently different that you wouldn't be able to build one using
regular XTS5K boards?

Compare the form factors and you'll have your answer.

I had to open my 5K and look inside to see the answer. It's been so long since I've last looked in one that I couldn't remember.
No way are you going to stuff real 5K boards into that SSE frame. It's a totally custom product.

Would it *theoretically* be possible to order the various parts one at a time and Deluca your own SSE together?

Shrug. I think last i saw a service manual a year ago... it was like $4k for the parts - but a couple key components were missing IIRC.
