Do you need any optional hardware inside a Spectra radio to make the Internal PA option work?
Anyone know anything at all?

I don't think so. there is an ON/OFF option in the RSS "F9, then SIREN options but I believe you have to have a PA speaker pinned in the siren to Spectra cable at the siren end. The rss info on this is in the hln1185x rss guide not the Spectra RSS guide. I just looked. I assumed it went through the audio speaker, too.

There's no way possible to run a PA with the spectra on its own. You need an audio source strong enough to power the PA speaker. So the siren box or no go.

The RSS "Siren/P.A. Options" can be set to "Siren/PA", "PA only" or "Disabled". I understand how all this works.
In addition the RSS has an "Internal PA" option. This does not look like the PA only option above that requires the EXTERNAL PA hardware and high power PA speaker.
The Syntor X radios had a PA only option that used the radio's audio amplifier to drive a 20 watt speaker (it would switch to another speaker that could be mounted outside the vehicle when you turned on the PA). It did not use an external Siren/PA amplifier or a high power Siren/PA speaker, but, it was a PA only system.
My pure speculation is the Spectra could have dome something similar. It looks like it MIGHT take special hardware plugged into the command board J501 connector to get the audio routed to the radio's audio amplifier?
Thanks for the help, but, I am still looking for a Spectra god who can give me some specifics on the RSS "Internal PA" option.

Well, I am a god....... yeah right. You need an external amp to make that feature work, the Spectra is a completly different animal than the Syntor. SG

Then what is the difference between the RSS "Siren/P.A. Options" set to "PA only" and the "Internal PA" set to "Enabled"?
If both options use the same external Siren/PA amplifier then they are redundant RSS options????
The detailed service manual HLN6150A HearClear board documentation labels some of the J501 pins with PA function names and I do not think they are referring to the RF Power Amplifier deck.
The Syntor X example was only meant to illustrate a concept, I never meant to imply any overall similarity

The RSS Siren options PA only allows public address through the 100 watt amp but does not allow TONES or AIR HORN. The Internal PA may be a lower wattage setting through the HLN 1185 unit. Are you working with the trunk mounted radio? If so, you may have to add wires to the appropriate pins in the T Connector (like changing the siren speaker wattage - different Audio+ pins for different wattage seakers). Just a guess. Mine is trunk mounted and I have seen that optoin in my RSS. I assume you highlighted " Internal PA" and it F1 and page down to see any help file associated with it.
I looked in my RSS guide book but did not see areference to it, So it may be in the hln1185x RSS manual or install manual.
