Remote Recievers and Linking - Data System

Hello! I am being VERY curious and kinda thinking here... If one were to setup a base radio that uses FSK data to communicate with another vehiclular-mounted radio (for data MDT-like purposes), what would it take to add a remote reciever? What I am thinking is have that data decoded at the remote site, then sent to the main site somehow - not passing the audio... So basically, what I am looking for is a data link to go between two sites. Would a phone line work ok for this situation (always connected using a custom device and maybe another FSK system), or would you suggest a radio link on another band? This remote site would also have TX abilities, but this site would coordinate when it would TX with the main site as to not key over eachother (through the link). Thanks for the suggestions! -BW

I have seen similar systems set-up using data conditioned leased lines work fine. I have also seen RF links used as opposed to leased lines & they worked just fine. It really depends on the system parameters, such as how far apart the sites are, how isolated the sites are (no line access), whether a lot of money can be paid up-front to do it wireless, etc.
