UPDATED - Radiated RF noise from the ingnition system - Help

Scroll down, I narrowed the source down, now I just need solutions.
I have this annoying scratchy crackling noise on all my radios in my Ranger. It seems to go up and down with RPM. It is not the fuel pump. It is not a typical high pitched alternator whine. Also, it is a radiated noise, not coming in through the power feed. I can run the radio off a battery pack and it still has the noise.
Is there something that typically causes that kind of noise?

first thing that comes to mind is the plug wires. are they old? maybe try some new 'noise-suppression' type wires. ...just a guess

Pop has a 93, and finally found the HEI coils that are for each set of four wires, one was not grounded firmly. Caused one hell of a racket on the Maratrac, tightened it up and it's gone. Yeah, old wives tale on the wires, check those out first. One thing to try, go out to your truck at night, raise the hood, start it, kill the under hood light if equipped and check for little blue arc's around the plugs or along the wires where the silicon jacket may have been rubbed through. Go ahead and go the extra step and change plugs and wires, and be done with it if you see any. Some of the many things that can ** F ** with you while either troubleshooting, or just trying to find the whine in the 2000 amp subs setup or the perfecionist's radio system.
I do remember on guy who brought his wrecker into the shop for new self loader ear locks and, my god, you couldn't hear anything in the cab aside from his buisness radio screamin like a banchy with alternator whine. It was unbearable. When asked how could you stand that, the common reply of, Stand What? I now knew why he never heard the loud bangs coming from behind the cab when he tore both of the alignment ears of the selfloader he was driving. Even more priceless when he said he never heard anything. In trying to educate him, I said, "It's like the sound of a ringing register when you don't hear anything". hehe

Yes, but at least in my truck, the squrril is an accessory, where as on your car, the squirril is actually powering the car.
I was begining to suspect plugs and wires as well. I will check those out next. The funny part is this just started out of the blue.

Well, through extensive testing, I have determined the noise is RADIATED and coming from the ignition system. I am unable to narrow it down and further (ie- a peticular wire, plug, or the coil pack).
I never thought I would bring myself to do this but I covered the coil pack and about 8" of wires in tin foil. It actually reduced the noise. It isn't gone but it made it less. This is definatly not a long term solution though.
What I am interested in now is the best kind of spark plug wires for reducing noise. Any suggestions?

Matt, I actually replaced my wires with the Magnacor Noise Supression wires which helped reduce a great deal of noise on the scanner while recieving.
They are a bit pricey, however they are silicone based ( ron will love them) and certified for life.
