SpectraTAC- How fast?

Post by Zaputil »

How fast will a SpectraTAC voter with Tone Priorty module pass audio to the console? Need to set MDC1200 pretime on some mobiles.

Thanks!

Figure on the order of 250-400 ms. But some experimentation is often in order.

We have a SpectraTAC on our system at work. Lets put it this way, if you take a portable with no Pre-ID, just key up and start talking, it will be front-end clipped. All our radios have 500ms Pre-Times programmed and that is more than enough. I actually have mine set for 350ms and it works fine as well.

Another tip, if your mobile, portables, and console support DOS Muting, I highly recommend you enable the Preamble (AKA- Bitsync packets). It votes faster and mutes the data almost flawlessly. The only reason I wouldn't do this if you don't have DOS muting is it will drive you nuts without it.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"
