Anyone have info to modify a Maxtrac 800 Smartnet radio to use a RICK for linking to a UHF Maxtrac? The acc connector pins do not program as does a conventional radio, COR, etc. Need to link a SmartNet talkgroup to a UHF repeater for interoperability. Thanks. Mark102.

This is no problem to do. It requires some mods to the 800 radio and my extender module to link it to UHF or VHF or? You can use five pin radios if you want with my modules. These are plug and play.

When i get to the computer that has the needed info on it it WILL be on the way to you.The Extender module has circuits in it to interface with most radios in the Maxtrac/Radius series. And is made for five pin radios, five and sixteen pin radios or for two sixteen pin radios.

where are you located. I have this exact mod in some of our patrol cars for crossbanding the Smartnet County system with UHF and VHF.
I have an extra setup waiting to go into one of the new cars. It is a UHF Maxtrac to an 800 Smartnet Maxtrac.
I did not use the RICK or the rear connectors. I used the mod in an early version in MRT. It is also shown here in the batlab model info.
There are some tricks to crossbanding the the UHF to 800 trunking.Most of it is in some of the programming. One of the tricks is NOT to enable the keyup audible tone on the 800 radio and not to use any signalling in the UHF. This sometimes causes the unit to continuously attempt to access the 800 system. even after there is no signal present into the UHF.

Here is the puppy to do that. We had too many problems with the setup in the MRT, so this one was designed.
And it has a disable switch that completly isolates the radios for use seperately.

what is the cost on that unit in the pic.
is that a plug and play or are there any mods inside the radio. It looks like it would be easier than the MRT mod.
I would make one suggestion if you have not already done it.
In the MRT mod, I use an on/off switch for each radio. I can then cross UHF to 800 or 800 to UHF or both at the same time.

As I explained to Mark, the one problem I had with the 800 Smartnet cross banding was the when I enabled the access tone on keyup or MDC signalling on the UHF. These had to be disabled or the radios would run wild .

121, thanks for the tip, 800 trunking is another can of worms.
This module in the photo, Extender (bi-directional), is for a 16 pin to an old 5 pin radio. That is why the other connector is different. There is only a tag cable added to the five pin radio, no modifications in the radio, the module does all the interfacing.

So, a SP interface Extender module with a three way switch, OFF all radios operate normally, ON1 UHF to 800 , ON2 UHF to VHF.
Maybe a second switch to make it one way, or bi-directional?

Now available for CDM radios, and CDM to any other Maxtrac/Radius radio including Maratrac!

Going to resurrect this post from the dead...

Looking to do something similar with a 900 Mhz Maxtrac on a Smartnet System and a UHF CDM1550. I have a R.I.C.K. but know now that it will not work. Would like to it to be bi-directional and not just one way.

Is there still a solution to doing this?
