Like you said, the problem is most likely the keypad flex, it is very possible the the flex isn't making contact with the controller board. Try re-positioning the bracket and the flex on the controller. The keypad flex is about 30 dollars from M, I also suggest you buy a new shield ($9)and clips (4@ about $.80 each). The keypad flex is adhesive and sticks to the shield.

I would play with the flex bracket for a while ans ensure that all of the pads are making contact on the controller board first. Unless a trace on the flex is nicked I wouldn't replace the the flex. The flexes on the XTS and Astro are much better than the earlier saber flexes.

CONTROL UNIVERSAL FLEX LIST is supposed to be $175.96, but that database might be a month or two out of date... Guess it's time to reload it.

Regardless, that's an expensive flex.

I probably have a model 3 keypad I could sell you kicking around - but that doesn't really help you much.

If you have a model 3 housing to "rid" yourself of, let's talk.

Maybe we can work something out.

just so we are all clear...

i do NOT need the flex that is connected to the Speaker, mic, CH, ABC, VOL and the side buttons..

what i am after is the one for the 6 buttons on the FRONT of the Model 2

(-) (=) (-)
(<) (H) (>)

^- those -^

i think we are talking about different parts....

Make sure that the flex is seated properly. I have had to move the bracket ever so slightly to get the left side buttons to work on a couple of Model III's.

The flex that you want is the keypad flex part number NTN 8493 $30.61, also order part #0705368Z01 $7.88 the flex bracket, 2605342Z01 $9.56 front shield and four clips #4205631Z01.

The flex is adhesive on the back and sticks pretty well to the shield. Carefully examine the flex at the point where is comes over the shield on the bottom side to see if any traces are nicked. Again I highly doubt the flex is bad unless of course you can visibly see a problem. check and double check your flex to controller connections.
