Anyone ever use Nova WIC-3 oval strobe heads?

They are like 1/2 the price of a Whelen 500 series and I was wondering if they are cheap crap or not? I would be putting at least 20 watts into each one. I need to know if the strobe can handle that and if it throws the light somewhat decent.

These would be going on a dump truck. I am more inclined to use these since if someone smashes it with something, it would only be a $30 replacement rather than a $65.00 replacement. I just don't want it to melt or not work.

I used a set of those, I had clear ones that I put on the front of two vehicles. I used some L brackets from NAPA that are made for those oval lights. I was running a Nova 690 power supply with two of those and two nicrothins. Never had any trouble with them other than some water corroded the connector on the cable, silicone fixed that.

They are totally waterproof, and if they get hit, more than likely they will push out of the rubber grommet.

Just weighing options. I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't look into all the possibilities and pick the best one.

I install the WIC 3's on all the construction vehicles that I setup. Yes they are cheaper than the 500's, but they still throw alot of light out. I use clears to the front, ambers to the rear, and sides. I would recommend them to any one that asks about them. If a customer wants a whelen product I will then stir them to the 500 series for strobes.
