Wow! The programming load speed for our old XTS3000 and ASTRO Spectra radios is a lot faster than it used to be. Standard programming operations like channel freq changes, personality adds/removes and the like, are noticably faster than they were with the previous CPS versions. Very impressive. I still see a noticably faster programming speed with the XTS5000 and XTL5000 radios, as compared to their predecessors, although this is regarding Conventional radios. I have no idea what the comparison might be for trunked programming operations. This new version of the CPS is well worth the few minutes of time it takes to uninstall the old CPS and install the new version. If you are doing Conventional programming, you won't need a stop watch to see the improvement in programming load speed.

Also does not allow reprogramming of inhibited radios, which earlier versions allowed.

One thing I can't understand with CPS is the lack of keyboard shortcuts - How hard can it be to give the software the same/similar keyboard functionality as the old RSS had - it sure as hell was eaier to move between personalities, rather than using the mouse...

Maybe they made the interface slower to use intentionally so it takes longer to program a radio, therefore shops can make more money based on an hourly rate??

Then again maybe i've had too much to drink!!

No difference whether it's trunking or conventional. That's the result of the serial ribless & USB cables. I believe the standard RIB maxes out at 19,600KB/s. The serial ribless transfers data at up to 119KB/s, and the USB can go up to 4MB/s. When doing FLASHport upgrades, the data transfer speeds are shown on the display of the XTS2500/5000. The USB does the upgrade about 3 times faster than the serial ribless.

I haven't seen a new version of the CPS since version 2.00.00, which Motorola sent me about the time I sold off my last Astro portable. (It's been a while!)

Did they ever enable data pools (group data for various users that can be transferred and edited in sets) and drag-and-drop editing?

Yes - you can now drag and drop from Astro Spectra -> XTS3K/Astro Saber. I don't know if it'll interchange with the 2500/5000's (newer series).

They also enabled the ability for import and export if I recall, but It's been a while since I saw one of the readme files.

I havent found an easy way to drag/drop between the Astro and Astro25 CPS products, as the screens are laid out differently.

Anyone had any luck w/ that? Sure would be nice to just be able to type zone numbers and PL tones rather than have to choose from a drop down box. Gosh i miss the rss sometimes!

Yes, you can drag & drop between Astro & Astro25 CPS. I've done it pretty extensively for the trunking systems & personalities. I haven't really done any with conventional stuff. That might be a little different, since in Astro the frequencies are entered into each conventional personality, while in Astro25 the frequencies are entered in the zone/channel assignment.

If I program a XTS3000 with CPS 4.01.04, will 4.01.02 resume to work or it'll spit out "Codeplug too new"?

Once you program a Motorola radio with the latest CPS, then older CPS versions will no longer work to program that particular radio.

This is a major reason why it is so important to always keep your CPS current. This way, whenever you get your repaired radio back from Motorola, you can be assured your CPS will work, as they ALWAYS use the latest CPS at the Repair Depot (probably even in Mexico, tvsjr).

119KB/s? That's strange.

A standard PC's serial port maxes out at 115.2kbps.

Since this thread started a year ago, I would just like to confirm 4.01.04 is still the newest version for Astro CPS?

Yes, for Astro Portable (ASTRO Saber/XTS3000) and Astro Mobile (Astro Spectra).

I just started programming XTS5000, XTS2500 and XTS1500 and we are using Astro 25 CPS version R6.00.00.

It looks like this software works with:

XTS5000, SSE5000, XTS2500, XTS1500, MT 1500, PR1500 Portables

and

XTL5000, XTL2500, ASTRO Spectra Plus

So you may want to check to see if there is a newer version

Welcome to the board.

There are 2 series of radios:

"Astro25" Series:
XTS5000, XTS2500, XTS1500, PR1500, MT1500, SSE5000 (Astro25 Portables software part number RVN4181)
XTL5000, XTL1500, Astro Spectra Plus (Astro25 Mobiles software part number: RVN4185)

All of the above use 6.00.00 CPS that you have.

"Older Astro" Series:
XTS3000, Astro Saber (RVN4182)
Astro Spectra (RVN4183)

All of these use 4.01.04 CPS. They can also use RSS pending the last version they were programmed with.

You are correct for the models listed, but R04.01.04 is the latest and greatest for Astro portables (Astro Saber & XTS3000). You are listing the Astro 25 Portables.

Keep in mind that while the ASTRO25 RVN-4181 CPS programs the PR1500 and MT1500 radios, these radios are NOT ASTRO digital radios. They are strictly legacy analog FM. Not sure why in the heck they use ASTRO25 CPS.

I wouldn't complain about that (not that you are). It's great that Motorola is rolling lots of radio models into a common CPS, rather than a different one for each model as in years past...

Point well taken---it is a lot easier to have fewer number of CPS programs. It just seems weird that they would call it ASTRO25 for an FM radio, but that's probably a small detail.

Not yet at least. M has announced that they are going to provide P25 CAI upgrades 2Q2006 (for a cost of course) for the PR1500's. I'm not 100% positive on the MT1500, but I can only assume so because:

The XTS2500 (already IMBE), MT1500, and PR1500 are the same radio. (Housings excluded) The only thing different is the firmware and DSP.

Wow! That's VERY interesting! If they do offer firmware uplifts that would provide IMBE for the PR1500 and/or the MT1500, holy cow, then we will have 3 low end P25 Motorola portables: XTS1500, PR1500, and the MT1500. Seems like it may get confusing, if not price overlapping, for the Motorola customer.

Maybe they will make a Ham P25 version? Darn, I guess that's too much to ask...
