Hi all,

if an ASTRO Smartzone radio (or any Smartzone radio) is programmed for only one site in the system, is it then possible to do away with Auto Affiliate?

Will this affect talk group scanning?

Regards

Yes, you can do that. But there is a better way, known as the 'hidden channel method'.

Short and simple:

Create sixteen conventional channels and a few extra trunked channels for each zone. Trunked channels are in channel slots 17 and up.

Do NOT enable the 'chan' soft menu option.

You will not be able to get to the trunked channels in each zone this way...but your conventional channels can refer to the trunked channels in their scan lists. So you can SCAN the trunked channels, but you can't GO TO them by any other way.

The radio will NOT ever affiliate when it's scanning a trunked talkgroup unless the radio's currently set to that talkgroup via the channel and zone selections, which you can't do if you set it up with the trunked groups on channel 17 or higher in any zone and don't enable the 'chan' menu.

Wouldn't it be easier to set the radio to Affiliate on PTT, and add the TxIn softmenu?

One thing I haven't quite confirmed yet, but there may be a way to force radios to affiliate at certain selected SmartZone sites through FNE configuration.
