We have a Desktrac Repeater model number L35SUM7000B-T and cannot find any info on Motorola's web site. Does anyone know if this is trunking capable and any info that is on the web to says it is trunking capable?

The book shows this as a 10 Watt 800 MHz repeater.

Motorola did ship some Startsite Privacy Plus systems with Desktrac repeaters.

What exactly was your intended application for this unit?

Remember that Motorola generally requires that all repeaters connected to a Central Controller be the same type, i.e. all Quantar, or all Micor, etc.

We have 2 of these repeaters and a MTR2000. An Authorized Motorola Radio store said these would work for a trunking system. We did some trading for some equipment in which this store said would work for this trunking unit. They can not get this cabled right and now say these are not trunking repeaters and want us to spend more money. I am new to the radio world and dont know if they are telling the full story.

The desktrac is most certainly trunking capable. I personaly built many channels using these repeaters. It requires a trunking control board where the Tone remote board ususally sits. You still need a Trunked Controller of some type. The repeaters aren't smart enough to do it on thier own.

You can use a Start Site controller or a 5004 and up with a few minor mods.

Anyone who tells you different, just doesn't have a clue. I lived and breathed those machines.

The unit is rated for 10 watts but run it a tad less ~8. And make sure the fan is working. Replacing PA's is a drag. been there. Done that.

As stated before, these units were available as part of the /\/\ StartSite system. You could also use them in a LTR system with a external controller. You didn't state specifically what type of trunking you were looking at so that could be an option. IMHO, if you are looking to build a trunked system of any type, I would STRONGLY suggest you use repeaters of the same type. I've been able to get a mixed batch of MSF 5K and Quantar to work together at 900 but it took awhile to get the audio to sound the same between channels.

P.S. I don't think /\/\ is supporting DeskTrac anymore, you may want to check into that. I know of one we had that was sent back for flat rate repair about 2 years ago for a power supply problem. Took them 6 weeks to return. /\/\ had installed a modified computer PS in place of the OEM. Really weird. Next one that failed just got the AC guts ripped out and converted to external DC only.
