Is this another attempt at fixing the minitor III or is there a new feature set to be offered?

"Entirely new product"

From my conversation, all new accessories, new pager, new receiver, new options...

We'll see when I rip the first one I get apart...

I am predicting a narrow band capable piece of junk. We'll see.

Let's hope not, eh?

You've got to wonder just what was wrong with the Minitor, or even the Minitor II.

Just like Motorola to take an excellent product and really F it up.

Easy. The technology in the Minitor II was so old, they couldn't sell it for an astronomical price. So, the next logical thing was to build a new piece of junk and sell it for twice the price. Duh :-?

I must say I am hoping for a pager that is capable of sel call scanning. I have to run two channels as fire is on one and medical paging is on the other.

RX is kind of in the pits when it comes to the III or IV however I do like this a little bit better as we are on the common paging channel of 152.0075Mhz and being so close to the cities (aka Mnpls/St.Paul) we get a lot of hospital digital and other pages.

In addition if the M5 only covers narrowband then it will be a piece of crap as we use M3's and M4's on a narrowband system right now and if anything there is about a 10% audio difference and nothing more.

God save the Queen and Motorola!!!

You really would need two receivers for that. If the pager is scanning with a single receiver, you will always have the chance of clipping the first tone and not having the pager alert.

Just got a Swissphone Quattrino; looks very sharp. Supposedly there are "400,000" of these in circulation in Europe per the salesman; "most used pager in Europe".

Unfortunately we changed our tone frequencies so I have to send it back

Feels heavy duty and is slightly smaller than a Minitor IV. The tones are programmable but the frequency is crystal controlled. I guess you can't change the frequency on these since its set from the factory in Switzerland!

Seems I recall someone asking or saying they'd love to read motorola's paperwork on it. Anyone know?

As for the M5, heard they're experimenting with the SV again, rx sens seems pretty good, also holds a charge for quite a long time, went two full dawy w/o a recharge recently.

Time will tell since this is a demo unit and no it's not a SV mode, not sure when those will be released though, if they even do.

Anyone know further on the SV issue?
