That's pretty much the way it works with Quantar [exchange that is - since it really isn't field serviceable to the component level]

For example, for the 800 MHz 100 Watt P.A.:

Replacement: $3700.00
Advanced exchange: $1600.00 [when available]
Flat rate repair: $1250.00

Obviously, advanced exchange pricing assumes that your returned part is repairable - no lightning, moisture, or burn damage.

Just call the System Support Center and work your way through the DTMF tree until you get to the FRU / Exchange prompt and someone will be happy to quote you the latest price for the item you need.

I can confirm that these prices are accurate for 900 MHz Q-Tar as well if that's what you have.

If I can have a Quantar module repaired at a flat rate of $1250, why would I want to spend an extra $350 ($1600) for an exchange? I'd rather get my one time repaired module back and save the $350, not to mention that the exchanged module could have had 10 previous repairs done on it (e.g.,There goes the lands!).

I assume the "advanced exchange" option is where you get the refurbed FRU shipped to you while your NFG FRU passes it in transit, like "two ships in the night," so your repeater has a little less down time? Even then, it doesn't make much sense, because your repeater is going to be down anyways until the refurb FRU arrives. Seems like if it is a priority to have no repeater down time, one should pre-purchase all of the FRUs, and keep them on the shelf, ready to go.

From my experience it pays to keep a Power Supply Module and Station Control Module around.
Also lots of backups of config files.

A problem with advanced replacements is that you must ensure the firmware version is compatable with the rest of your Quantar.

I can agree with you on this Larry. The only time I used advance replacement was on a system that was 5 channel and has severe loading issues. Called System Support at 4PM and had a PA at 7:30AM next day. Yep, it costs but it was a pass along cost to the customer that he agreed to. Repair usually took 10-14 days total turn around. Stocking spares in the shop wasn't an option, especially with the high costs of the controller and PA.
