i recently attempted to connect an old tone remote adaptor to a CCII console.

I hooked everything up today as per the schematics you folks helped me with. The console talked to the spectra and all works fine EXCEPT that there is a woosh of noise (just like if you were in monitor) from the channel position. The spectra itself is Not in monitor, if i turn down the console volume and use the spectra's speaker for an audio output all works perfectly. I checked my connections and all seems ok, any suggestions/pointers where to look would be apppreciated.

Oh 1 more thing if i disconnect the 15pin connector off the back of the spectra and leave the tone remote adaptor hooked up and powerd up the noise goes away. I only get the woosh when i plug the 15 pin connector.

Pin 15 on the Spectra is detector audio - it is unsquelched and not the same as the low level audio you can get on a Maxtrac or Radius [deemphasized & muted] - and not really satisfactory for your application.

You will need to create a transformer isolation circuit and use the Spectra's speaker audio. Otherwise, you could get more complicated and add a squelch circuit between the detector audio and the tone remote adapater. Suitable circuits are available for amateur repeater controllers [e.g. Link Communications]

Ah, the Spectra output is not squelched...I learn something everyday. You should be able to run one of the Spectra speaker leads into the RX+ pin of the tone remote adaptor without hurting anything. I'd recommend putting a capacitor in-line with it to block the DC biasing voltage, 10uF 16V should do fine.

thank you guys for your time and effort, i must say i was rather satisfied to get things working after being told by some moto techs that it could not be done, it was too old ect. by you folks taking the time for me it worked out great.

I had one forther question, as far as getting the spectras speaker output to feed into the capacitor that todd reccomended, Can i use pin 6 (SPKR Hi) from the rear (15 pin connector) of the spectra to accomplish what i need.
P.s depending on what i have for capacitors laying about, is there any benefit or detriment in using a bigger (higher rated) capacitor? If so in your opinion what should i not go above as far as size of capacitors.
