Well, finally getting around to posting the install jobs that myself and BPD109 (Randy) had been up to... I'm sure he will post here with what I have forgotten...

First...
Brand New 2004 Ford Explorer: This is my work vehicle, have been slowly equipping as I get time to get it done... Still have some equipment on order for it.






Emergency Equipement:

Star Saber Light bar with LED Arrowstick
Code 3 Remote LED Heads on the push bumper
SHO-ME Dual Color LED Heads in the back window
SVP LCS-7 Siren/Light Controller

Radio Equipment:
Motorola MCS2000 Model 2 VHF 110w with front control head (2nd control head for back to be ordered later)
Motorola CDM1250 VHF (rear)
Midland Syntec 2 Lowband Remote Head (rear)
(all rear equipment on temporary shelf untill command unit for the back is completed)




Front radio / switch equipment is in a Jotto Desk console made for the Explorer, that replaces part of the exsisting console.






The graphics package was designed by one of our local graphics people who also does our law enforcement vehicles... I was very impressed... the blue is reflective, looks great at nite.

2003 FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR


This vehicle is a retired Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle with 47,xxx miles that was in immaculate condition... This vehicle was to be reequipped for patrol use. It was up to me and Randy to design and implement the package, but I'll be the first to admit that he was the brains (well, most of them!) behind this package, all I did was miscellaneous stuff...

Here is the car before we started...









The way we designed this vehicle was for unmarked useage...

Equipment:

2 6-outlet power supplies (in trunk)
-Power Supply "A" drives clear strobe tubes in the front corner lights and strobe tubes in the brake lights, all on quad flash.
-Power Supply "B" drives red and blue strobe tubes in the reverse lights and red and blue grille strobes on double flash.





Also used are 2 Code 3 Dual RVM Strobes in the back deck, and one on the front dash, and Code 3 Wig Wags...






All of this is controlled by a Code 3 Mastercom Switch Box.


Radio Equipment is a Kenwood TK-790 VHF High Power Remote Mount and Radio Shack scanner.

All equipment mounted in a Black Rack Console.

All in all, these both turned out great with a minimal amount of problems, as opposed to our other installs which usually end up greek tragedies!

why full size remote strobes in the deck / dash? was it what you had on hand, or do you not want LEDs?

I like the bottle of coke installed under the hood on the CVPI. I installed a screwdriver under my hood the other day.

I spoke with the individual responsible for funding the CVPI project, (hereafter referred to as the Finance Nazi) while we were researching equipment for the vehicle, and this is how it went. I demonstrated some of the new Code3 LEDX dash/deck units. Super bright, great warning power, blah blah yadda yadda.

He wanted to go with what the highway patrol had becasue
A.) its effective
B.) State-bid prices on the RVMs (They are self contained, not remote)
C.) He likes how the highway patrol cars look

I tried hard to convince him that LED was the way to go, but thats as far as it got.

Yes, the Coke had to be installed...and in quantity. These jobs took place through the wee hours of the night. I am grumpy by nature; tired, grumpy and de-caffinated are a bad combination.

Is the ball mount on the CVPI installed full-time, or was it a prop for the pics? If it's always on the car, then you guys kick ass!!!

Actually... thats what MSHP uses for low band around here, and when the Finance Nazi went to pick up the car, they left it on there for him... using it for his scanner antenna for scanning primarily the MSHP low band freqs.

What are your plans for the command console in the back of the Explorer?

Loose the magnet mount cell antenna.. Other than that it looks good..

Unfortunately, losing the cell antenna is a bad idea...

Out here in the sticks where the chickens do unmetionable things to the hoot owls, and men are men and sheep are scared, we don't get good cell reception, so if you go outside the city, you definitely need one, otherwise you are screwed!

As far as the command console for the back... haven't made any firm decisions yet... have money budgeted out for it, looking at some type of aluminum slide in unit, or maybe a wooden one... Want a good shelf for the radios, drawers for supplies, a good writing surface, and a place for laptop, maps, etc. Know anybody that makes one?

But... were you not willing to punch a hole in the trunk of the CVPI for an NMO mount?

If you need a cell . you could trunk lip mount a Cell or Glass mount.

I just think a magnet mount looks .. Hamsexy..LOL

CellSexy! or AMPSexy....or TDMASexy....ahhaha, lose the mag mount. you did a nice job on the rest of the ride, might as well lose the emitting paintscraper.

Thanks to all those who placed input regarding the paintsucking evil demonic and destructive cell antenna.

I am going to speak to the Finance Nazi, and convince him to let me poke a hole in the middle/rear of the roof to apply the cell antenna. The newer cell antennas just look like something used in an 800 system anyway, might as well just drill more holes in his car. (Maybe, just maybe I am sadistic, I love watching people cringe when I drill holes in their vehicles, and they hear the hole saw tearing into the metal...mwaaa haa haaaa)

The magnet will be homeless this weekend. Thanks, again for the input (and praise). Now I can actually charge Jon (jayres) money for work. This crap of working for food just don't pay the bills.

why do people get so up tight about holes?

Ever looks closely at your vehicle? Its full of holes for other parts - door handels, lock cylinders, luggage racks, clearance lights.

Most modern vehicles are already swiss cheesed from the factory - another properly drilled hole isn't go to make it worse.

That guy in the pictures seems to have some strange arthritic condition that causes one of his fingers to stick straight out. Real classy.
