i have a uhf xts 3000 and it has crapy transmit audio, the problem is inermitent. i have ruled out the speaker mic(s) internal mic battery contacts ect. Some time ago a member made refrence to a srn on the problem (srn 1397) which has to do with installing some kind of sheild. I called Motorola today and they said "there was more to it than just installing a sheild" and suggested sending it to rockford or a local MSS. the girl tryied to email me the PDF file but she had no luck. If any of you folks have a way and the time to post the srn or pm me it would be most appreciated. I just assume do the repair myself depending on how involved their repair procedure is.

They told you right - there is a lot more involved than a shield - you really will need to send the radio to the depot or your local MSS - they will get paid to fix the problem plus there's no way you are going to get M to send you the necessary parts.

Here is part of the procedure:


1. In Chapter 8 (Disassembly/Assembly Section) of the Astro XTS 3000 Digital Portable Radio Detailed Service Manual 6881083C90-B follow steps 1 thru 17 to disassemble/assemble the radio.

2. Mark the old RF board, the old RF shield and the old front cover and set them apart.

3. Install new RF board, new RF shield, and new front cover to replace those in the radio. (Follow Step 1 for Assembly)

4. Retune radio per Basic Service manual 6881083C85-A (Chapters 6 and 7).

Here is the description of the fault.

Symptoms:
Users may report a high level of background noise (scratching or clicking noises) when receiving from a UHF XTS3000 radio.
This issue is a function of the transmitting radio.

Potential Problem Radios:
Although, any UHF XTS3000 may exhibit the above symptom, it is expected that the symptom will be observed in only a
small percentage of radios.

If this applies to you it should be serviced under warranty (there is no reference to serial number ranges of date codes).

Send to depot, or a qualified shop and they can do it.

JEEZ from what I was told before it was just an RF sheild and after calling moto yesterday there is a revised SRN#1473 (NOW) (WAS 1397) I knew moto was cheap but i could not understand why they wouldnt send me a crappy rf sheild, i guess when they revised the SRN# they now reccomend installing a New rf board and front cover!
One question i have is where does the flashcode reside? By no means do i have a "whored out" one it is just Cai and digital id display, should I worry about getting hack an "h35" brick?

If you have a "real" radio with factory serial number tags - you should be fine.

On the other hand - if your radio is parts built [aka Nickbuilt] - I'd suggest going to your local MSS rather than the depot - they might not ask as many questions.
