Hello all.

I have a recently acquired VHF A9 Spectra with the Sys9000 Siren box. After programming, installing and testing the unit, everything seemed to work fine. All radio and siren functions work great, with the exception of PA and External Radio.

When I place the unit in PA mode, I can hear the speaker clicking when I press the PTT on the mic, but not audio seems to be produced. If I turn the PA volume to the maximum of 15 I can hear what sounds like severely muffled/staticy audio coming from the siren speaker.

The same holds true when I place the unit in External Radio. Unless I turn the radio/PA volume wide open, not much is heard if anything. When something is heard, it sounds the same as the PA audio.

All siren sounds are good. Wonder what could be causing this problem.

The radio is a T83GXA7HA9AK with the Sys9000e control head. All siren functions are enabled. The siren speaker is a Code 3 100 watt speaker that is in known good condition (works fine on all other sirens that I have had it hooked to).

Any suggestions?

It sounds like a bad PA. What model is the siren unit? HLN1185?

Did your Spectra have a PA/Siren box on it originally? Maybe the Spectra is missing or has a SP that changes a couple of jumpers on the command board. The Siren 'box' just amplfies the audio the Spectra sends it. It seems that the Vol function in the Spectra does work, but the audio path to the Siren amp is open.

As far as I know, the unit had always been paired with the Spectra. The audio path is not "open" per se, seems like the audio section of the PA or EXT RAD function are "hard of hearing" if that makes any sense. If I crank the PA volume wide open (to setting 15) on the volume rocker, I can hear the audio, but it is ear splitting loud. It seems like the mic gain or something is not high enough, but the radio transmits audio fine.

Maybe a bad amp or something. Not really worrying about the siren right now, since the RF deck in the spectra is crapping out.

Thank you Jeff. I will check that section on the Command board also.

The EXT RAD audio from the receiver goes out on a different circuit than local the speaker audio does. The radio mic audio also goes thru the Command board.
