I am trying to fill the talk-in coverage for a SmartNet II Simulcast system.
A conventional voting receiver would bring audio back but not trunk signalling.
The audio is voted at a DigiTAC...
...but what gets the trunk signalling back to the central controller?

It takes a remote site controller with an IRB [Inbound Recovery Board] linked back to the DCB at the prime site.

This really isn't a do-it-yourself project. You will need to get a Motorola System Engineer and Upgrade Operations involved.

when you say that you aer trying to "fill" in coverage, is that talk in area one particular building, or is it a small geographical area. If it is an area of town then I would go with xmo's suggestion, but if you have poor talk in coverage from one building then a BDA may work for you.

As usuial XMO is right.
In these systems the remote receiving site is essentially the same thing as a transmitting site with out the transmitters.

I built one of these in Manila.

The problem with just adding some satellite receivers is that the system has to "see" that a mobile is transmitting.

This requires an RSTAT signal, as well as the correct connect tone, which is detected on the RIB board in the controller.

At one time when Motorola owned the trunk systems in Hawaii, we were planning to add two channels of voting to the airport site, with a satellite site in Wakiki.
The plan was to reserve these channels for "wide area" use.

We were planning to kludge some random logic to trick the controller into "thinking" only one receiver was present.
There was no plan to include the control channels because of the complications mentioned by XMO, as well as the fact that a channel grant was not a problem, but clear voice transmissions were troublesome.

We even had all the hardware, when NEXTEL happened.
The equipment is still in storage un opened.

This is just what I expected. The site needs to be treated as any other trunk site just no transmitter.

I guess this could be done with 4W E&M for audio and a subrate serial data card. The full Monty Simulcast with DSMs are not needed.

Wish I could use BDAs but cannot.

Motorola Systems does need to engineer the site but I don't want to ask for more than needed.
